Why are you spiritual? Why do you believe in the god that you do?
Was there a certain event that forced you to consider spirituality? Were you forced to believe? Would you believe the same if you were on your death bed?

Personally, I am not spiritual but once was, and am curious as to what brought others to consider their belief.

There are many reasons one believes the way they do.
I believe in a God. A maker, an Genius in all aspects of worldy knowledge.
I came to really believe in God when all else failed me. Miracles and life found their way to my heart and mind. In a way that had never been done before. This all...after I asked in earnest for help.

For me ...yes there r event or experiences in ur life that force u to believe or to not believe. But ultimately we do believe in GOD ....it can be outside ourselves or we our own individual world and our life or drives/interestthat we have as our GOD....human being needs to believe and that own believe is our GOD

I believe in God because my heart and soul tell me to! I want to meet my sister and my Mom again someday and I'm not going downstairs to do it!!

I believe in God...there hasn't been anything proving to me otherwise. I struggled with my anger towards God for quite a few years when I lost my son, not knowing why he would be taken from me like he was. But..overall, the human body is made up of so many pieces that a boom theory couldn't possibly have created that, all the stars, the clouds, rain, snow, grass, oceans, all the different animals...etc..etc.. I truly believe in God.

“Why are you spiritual?”

Because I can’t see the universe being any other way.

“Why do you believe in the god that you do?”

Please realize that “god” is just a word that can have drastically different meanings for different people.

”Was there a certain event that forced you to consider spirituality?”

No. My realization that the universe has a spiritual nature was obvious from childhood intuitively. However, I must confess that social religious beliefs really screwed me around and confused me for a while, but fortunately my life’s path was such that I was able to regain the truth on my own.

“Were you forced to believe?”

Absolutely not. In fact, I really don’t care whether we have a spiritual nature or not. It’s not important to me. I came to the conclusion that it simply has to be this way. It’s obvious to me that the universe is capable of consciousness. I’m conscious and I am obviously of this universe. What more proof could there possibly be?

“Would you believe the same if you were on your death bed?”

Of course. Why would I reject the truth that I have come to know?

I don’t need to have faith in any of this. It can be no other way as far as I’m concerned.

Sadly God is a relative world.
I would be so happy if it were an absolute for the human class.

Why?

Why should you care how other people think of god or their existence?

Unless they are trying to shove their morals and beliefs down your throat via legislation and bigotry I can’t imagine why it should be a problem.

I couldn’t care less how other people believe.

But I do get upset when they try to shove their beliefs onto me via legislation and government. Or when they try to teach their beliefs in schools in place of scientific knowledge.

Yes, then I get very upset!

God obviously loves diversity and variety (just look around at all the unecesary- from a functional standpoint- variations).

Why would God not find varied belief systems just as delightful?

______

I am spiritual because I choose to be... I make the choice for several reasons:

humans are so obviously flawed and unreliable that I feel the need to look beyond them for something else.
I don't know what happens when we die and neither does anyone else.
I refuse to believe that those who have died are just "gone".

"government and religion worst combination possible."

I'm with you on that one 100% brother!

I did away with religion altogether in my life. That was easy.

Now if I can only find a way to get rid of all the governments I'll be in great shape. ;o)

Once again we are confronted by the difference between "spirituality" and "religion".

government + religion = bad combo (I agree)

but this question was regarding spirituality (which granted for some includes religion)

government + spirituality = not possible?

“government + spirituality = not possible?”

I think it would be a major highjack to take the discussion in that direction in this thread.

I originally asked Miguel why it bothers him that everyone has their own beliefs. I was just curious.

I didn’t mean to knock the thread off-topic.

i totally believe in god. he is every where in and every thing. many times i need god and he was there for me.. even though he did not show me the answer at the time . it was later on i realized he was there guiding me, telling me what to say what to think. my fiance od one month before the hurricane in new orleans (2 years ago). i was on the way to her parents house tohelp in way i could. i prayed on the way there for god to send me angel . he did. i picked up a guy hitching a ride home and we talked. it was gods way of saying to me i am here and i am going to help you and the others around you.

James it does not bother me that everyone has his own beliefs. You may have misunderstood my words. My only intention was to express the fact that i would like the world would not be so apart due to religion and politics.
Just like that song that you like a lot "Imagine" by the beatles.
