According to the help topics, an edit option should be visible under a post for an hour after responding. Is there a reason it might be absent?

Mine has never been there. I phrased something badly and wished to edit it right away, but it never appeared.
What do you know. I turned my computer off and back on and there it is. It must have had something to do with my laptop. |

maybe a virus? sometimes when weird stuff happens, i do a scan with my virus/malwear engine...
