first love might fade into obsession or even hatred

but REAL love never dies,,,,is more of the truth for me

There is a bit of a "No True Scotsman" fallacy here.

"What is REAL love?" "It is love that never dies."
"How do you know it's REAL love?" "Because it never died".

How can you tell REAL love before death?
How can you tell REAL love apart from death?
Do you only know what you had when it's gone?
If it died what was it before?

The endless pursuit of perfection is the enemy of the now. Nobody's ferpect - Get oevr ti.

It isn't true from my experience. I love whoever I happen to be with at that time in my life. I focus on the current man in my life. I wouldn't bother thinking about some man who moved on.

Well.......I do believe in first love never dies and I do still remember him , even up to now we communicate from time to time, just catching up with our lives. I think it's the first memories of our love that awakened us and made us aware of the emotions hidden deep within us. The uncontrollable force of love, desires, lust, excitement, attraction or affection that ignited the fire in our hearts and brought us into consciousness. And even as time goes by, these memories had already been burried in our subconscious mind that can't be erased, it's engraved in our mind and heart.

I met my first love during Valentine's Day 1998, it was a singles night out , and cupid hit my heart:) even after 17 years now, everytime I hear from him my heart still beats fast, I can't explain my nervousness.....it's still the same feeling of excitement but of course the love will never be the same as it used to be, yet I am glad that we never have forgotten each other up to this moment. Memory of love lives on and on....... love  winking

I don't think it's just first love that always remains special in a way... I think that goes for everyone you truly loved.
I have had three such men in my life ...
One lives in Calgary ... a-hole broke my heart into a gazillion pieces tears
One lives in Australia ... wanted to marry me so I could stay in Oz, which scared the chit out of me ohwell Funny enough I find myself thinking about him quite often lately.

* I do know how to pick 'em don't I? LOL *

One is British does live close by though, my ex.
He was the first man I truly wanted to grow old with.
Oddly enough I never really had that feeling with the father of my children ... Somehow I always knew that he wasn't the right one for me.

So I don't think it's strictly 'first love' that doesn't die. I do think it dies btw... I just think some keep a special place in our hearts.

a little story about my first love, i was 16 she was 15 when we first met, we were infatuated with each other and almost literally lived in each others pockets for 4 years, then she went with my best friend while i was away, we broke up, i was heartbroken!

i never saw or heard from her again for 19 years, one day on facebook, she came us a mutual friend on someone's page and i sent her a message,
we chatted for a bit and a few weeks later, we met up for a coffee in town to catch up on each others lives, it was a few weeks after that that we both realised we still loved each other after all that time!
so we made up and got back together happy

unfortunately it didn't last, we broke up 2 and a half years later

but i gather she is getting married and she has finally found happiness so good luck to her flowerforyou

I think people tend to hold on to the ideal rather than the reality

^^^This idea gets my vote. I think back about my first love and it was really just a crush that passed as I got older and knew what love really was.
