MSNBC in reporting the death of former House Speaker Tom Foley incorrectly aired a picture of Mark Foley, the disgraced Florida congressman.

The 84-year-old Foley died Friday morning after spending several months in hospice care. The state of Washington Democrat served as House speaker for six years, under the Bush and Clinton administrations.

Mark Foley, R-Fla., served from 1995 to 2006, when House leadership asked him to resign amid allegations he sent inappropriate messages to past and present congressional pages.

A host for the cable network issued an on-air apology by the afternoon.

CNN used a photo of Dannel Malloy, a Connecticut Republican who lost in the state's 2010 gubernatorial election, according to the Connecticut Post.
