I also need to quit. We all know how bad it is for our health, but my
problem is I just like it too much. I run, and it affects my breathing.
I just like it. Start a forum! I'd like to read about how others do
it. I'm going to put the straws in my car = that's the number one worst
place for me. I also don't smoke in my house, and it's getting cold out
now, and I hate being cold, so that is going to help! But I like it!

Another reason for quitting is that they are finding it makes people
high risk for bladder cancer now too, let alone the lung cancer. Don't
know why your doctor wouldn't prescribe Wellbutrin, most will and do,
and are thrilled to if you want to quit smoking.

What they said about drinking, quit drinking first, because trying to
stop both at the same time is too hard and most people will fail so quit
one and after you are successful for awhile, then tackle the other. Too
much stress on the body to quit both habits at the same time.

I have heard people say the patches helped them, there are now nicotine
lollipops out there too, along with the gum. Talk to a doctor and see
what they recommend, or maybe a pharmacist can help you. Good luck.

set your mind to it and don't keep any near you. when you get the urge
to light up concentrate on something else.

I tried cold turkey and nearly killed someone, literly. So I went back
to smoking for a time. Then I counted the smokes and weaned myself off
them. If you can not get smokes at work it helps. A straw/tooth pick/gum
to have in your mouth does help many and when I was nearly done with
weaning myself off the nicotine part of the process I used tooth picks.
Weaning yourself off them is the hardest way to quit. But the patches
are available readily now days for you to get your nicotine so you do
not hurt yourself or someone during the withdrawal. So all you have to
do is want to quit and find something to break the habit of motion.

Someone mentioned to cut back. I smoke about a pack a day. The last
time I quit I cut back to only 10 a day. I would keep an empty pack and
I would place only 10 cigarettes in it. Visually seeing how many you
have will keep you from going outside just to have one for the hell of
it. After a weeks time I cut it back to 7, then 5 then I quit. I tried
so many times to quit cold turkey and it is actually harder that way
because you are sending your body an abrubt message of "What the fuck
are you doing, give me my nicotine?". So lets try and cut back.

You mentioned that you are quitting tomorrow...Will this be cold turkey
or have you been trying to cut back?

You can also take a close look at your finances and post it somewhere.
I always buy my smokes by the carton so when I see that I can save $120
a month, that helps.

First off..STAY AWAY from Welbutrin/Zyban if you are the type of person
that gets agitated easily..I tried it and it not only didn't help but it
made me very irritable and short tempered.
One trick that 3 of my friends have used was watermelon..it worked for a
couple of reasons..first off, since one of the 1st things that happens
when one tries to quit cold turkey is eating takes over..the nice thing
about watermelon is you can eat as much of it as you want and not gain
weight..it also helps because all the water in it helps to flush your
system, PLUS the roughage it contains helps to scrape the nicotine from
yer digestive and intestinal tracts..The faster you can remove the
nicotine from yer system, the faster the physical cravings will go away.
Hope this helps ya some Killer
