Bush's own report contradicts the lie he told Americans on TV, Thursday!

Sept. 14, 2007

Just hours after President Bush addressed the nation citing security and political progress in Iraq as a reason to continue a large military presence there, the administration sent a September Iraq report to Congress that paints a discouraging picture of stability on the ground in Iraq.

As ABC News first reported Thursday night, the administration's benchmark report suggests Iraq has a long way to go toward achieving security, progress and political reconciliation among Iraqi leaders.

The president's report, requested by Congress, found only nine of the 18 Iraq benchmarks are satisfactory, seven are unsatisfactory and two are mixed.

That is only one more benchmark reached than the administration's first report to Congress in July.

Please read the story before making asinine comments!!http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Story?id=3602299&page=1

Wow, one more benchmark towards stabilizing a countries economy and government. You act like its easy to do, could you do better? I for one would be unable to make anyone do something that is against thier political or religious beliefs overnight. Seems to me it will take quite a bit longer than some want it to take if you ask me. I wonder was rome built in a day, a month, or was it years? bigsmile

A) We arent building Rome!

B) Why would you want or believe its right to makeanyone do anything against their beliefs? Are you the all-knowing supreme being?

C) "One more benchmark towards stabilizing a countries economy and government." If this is true, which it isnt (did you read the story?) why the lies?

D) I think Roseanne Barr could do a better job than Bush!!

Please tell me...

If a construction worker was building a house...and he estimated in his quote, materials, labour, costings, and a time-frame you could move into your house....

would he not be accountable?

Would he not need to make progress reports?

Wouldn't you want to know if he was WWWAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY over budget?

And it had one wall, half a floor, and no roof, after his estimated time had lapsed by two years?

Would you keep paying him?

I wouldn't.

I still want to know why we can spend 100 billion a month on Iraq, but Bush vetoed a $10 billion bill that would have given money to fix America's bridges (see Minnesota) because "congress has overspent its budget?"

I want to know why we keep providing "welfare checks" to a bunch of people who have zero interest in taking responsibility for themselves( Iraq), and balk at providing basic assistance for even the neediest of our own citizens.

Protesters Gather to March on Capitol
Published: 9/15/07, 3:05 PM EDT
By MATTHEW BARAKAT
WASHINGTON (AP) - Thousands of protesters gathered Saturday outside the White House to demand an end to the Iraq war as counter-protesters rallied to meet them on a planned march to the Capitol.

The protesters gathered in Lafayette Park with signs saying "End the war now" and calling for President Bush's impeachment. The rally, organized by the ANSWER Coalition and other groups, was expected to conclude with a march to the Capitol.

Army veteran Justin Cliburn, 25, of Lawton, Okla., was among a contingent of Iraq veterans in attendance.

"We're occupying a people who do not want us there," Cliburn said of Iraq. "We're here to show that it isn't just a bunch of old hippies from the 60s who are against this war."

About 13 blocks away, nearly 1,000 counter-protesters gathered near the Washington Monument, frequently erupting in chants of "U-S-A" and waving American flags.

They planned to line both sides of Pennsylvania Avenue to confront anti-war protesters as they marched by and follow them to the Capitol.

Retired Air Force Lt. Col. Robert "Buzz" Patterson, speaking from a stage to crowds clad in camouflage, American flag bandanas and Harley Davidson jackets, said he wanted to send three messages.

"Congress, quit playing games with our troops. Terrorists, we will find you and kill you," he said. "And to our troops, we're here for you, and we support you."

Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., made a surprise visit to the counter-protest, which was organized by the group Gathering of Eagles. The group was created this year by veterans who wanted to challenge war protesters.

"We're a people of faith, courage and fidelity," said Hunter, a 2008 presidential candidate. "It's for this generation that we will win this war on terror."

Ive E-mailed every Republican Senator from the State! If they value my Independent Vote then vote for an End to the War!!!

Jess642,

I like the angle your proposing here:

"... If a construction worker was building a house...and he estimated in his quote, materials, labour, costings, and a time-frame you could move into your house..."

and I'd like to re-visit just for a variation on your theme sake:

If we were in fact talking about construction workers, we could, as you suggest it, expect some form of 'construction' of 'something' going on.

Apart from propaganda to make us believe something virtuous is being built, nothing could be futher from the truth.

Instead of 'construction, I'd propose the variation of 'demolition'. We are probably much more seeing the work of a demolition team, which tries to have us believe they're building something.

We all know that demolition teams have no idea, and won't ever have any idea how to build anything. That is not their competence nor interest.

A demolition team with the 'blow 'em all up', and 'schock and awe' approach, figuring that it is all that is required to get the 'job' done!!! Get rid of what is in the way!!! In this case get rid of people whom are in the way!!!

This shock and Awe demolition attitude goes way back. Some feel the ultimate manifestation was 'Hiroshima' and 'Nagasaki': SHOCK THEM BACK INTO OBEDIENCE!!! And it wasn't directed at Japan, the war was over for all intense and purpose, in spite of the naysayers. It was designed to shock and awe the USSR, posturing and parading in this vain and just emerging superpower beauty contest.

In the opinion of a growing number of people from every part of the world, including the US, this sort of 'wreckless - wreckers' mentatlity is bankrupt! It is urgent that Western nations in general, and the US in partiular become responsible and accountable for altering this barbaric and destructive approach!!!

Well, I think they are trying to build quite a few things over there. Suppose you hire a construction crew to build something and every time they get the framework up somebody burns it down. I think you have a lot of that going on over there. If you want it eventually build you keep paying and you stop people from burning it down.

Now this is occurring in several cases, first in real construction, second in formation of bridges between the different sects in the area, and third in the political reconciliation realm. So long as you have people burning it all down things will be difficult.

Sunnis burn it down to keep from letting the Shia have too much power and grab too big a share of the wealth. Strife exists between different groups of Shiites as well because some want closer alliance with Iran and some do not. Then the Kurds, who have been doing fairly well since the 91 war are trying to be cut out by both groups of Moslems. Iran works to destabilize things because it is in their financial interest to have the US fail and they seek to walk away with Iraq as their own possession, so they can have ever larger oil revenues and ever larger military and enhance their dreams of regional conquest. Syria prefers to interrupt things for its own reasons. Saudi Arabia is determined to not let Iran prevail so it contributes to destabilization, just to keep Iraq from becoming too heavily controlled by Shiites. And finally disadvantaged individuals from around the region who consider their own lot hopeless jump into the fight just because they don't have a lot of other things they can do besides just go join some rebel cause. That last item would not be the case if the middle eastern countries managed their political systems a little better so that fault is back on the local country governments in my opinion.

The US is not over there trying to destroy things as you suggest Voil, they are trying to to build things up. It is a little unkind of you to say so. Everyone else is trying to stop that process. People with an innate hatred for democracy or for the United States get on the bandwagon because if there is a lack of progress they have a reason to spew more vitriol against the US.

You also mention the bombs in Japan again. It seems to be on your mind every day. All the people who were adults at the time of the bomb are at least 80 years old today, so I suspect you were not one of them. Therefore any idea you have about the reasons for the bombing were taught to you by someone else. You assume that they were right, or you latch on to their issues as your way of contributing to some form of revisionist history. It seems that if someone says something enough times that makes it true. Well find another piece of history to pick on, the US has some high minded ideals as well and it wouldn't hurt to pick up and promote some of the better ones from time to time.

Each step towards a political and peaceful solution is a hard fought step and very significant.

this country has too many troops deployed overseas nowadays, that the thought of getting attacked here in North American soil, we won't have enough soldiers to defend us.

Voilazure.....and others...

Broken down into childlike terms if you please...the cut and dried version...

correct me where I am wrong please...and I don't need supporting links..

My understanding of this whole debacle is this, as sold to the 'average man' globally...

Bad guys scare the crap out of average America, and take many lives, in very public places, using planes to 'rattle the chain'...

Huge reaction....and a target...the ole 'Al Queida' and Osama Bin Laden, because they fessed up, as the ones who did it...'War Against Terror' campaign begins...nice platform with which to work with, and brings a unity for an 'Alliance'...

Nice little speech made to make sure those other countries come on-line and support this angry giant...'If you aren't with us, you're against us' and that means...you are open season...'Hiroshima' style..

We, the observers, remember the last time the US got 'attacked' and what was done to show their might...

Yep, we are onboard with you Mr US, we would prefer not having our sunday breakfast nuked...where do we sign?

We don't need to mention the IRA, nor all the other terror attacks that have happened within our countries, the loss of lives, cause it's all about you Mr US.. yep, where's the pen?

Suddenly we are now in Iraq, over-throwing an oppressive regime..liberating the people, and rebuilding a nation...(that we kind of broke with our 'blow em up' weapons, that many Iraqi's would see as mass destruction)...

What was the link? I missed that bit...how did we get to be there?

I know how Australia got to be there...we don't like our vegemite toast nuked...and a really angry 'super in their minds' power said in their 'patriot act' speech, we would get it, if we didn't come on board.

Help our neighbours? Absolutely. Help them with their grieving, support them through this terrible attack? Yes...do you need troups to protect YOUR country? From invasion? we have our hands out ready to help...

Go squash and kill a whole crazy nation?

What's the link? How did we get from Al Queida, and Osama Bin Laden to Iraq?

I really did miss that bit, must have been hanging out the washing or something, that day.

Please enlighten me, in simplistic child like terms, if you wouldn't mind..

Stubborn is right. Bush is the kind of guy who'll spend $500 weekly on lottery tickets, and a few months later, hit one for $3, and go around bragging to everyone how he won at the lottery.

I guess some people really can't distinguish the difference between any of them. Their solution is to kill them all, take their oil and anything else of value, using any excuse neccessary to win! Is Iran next? Will Isreal be involved? Are they already? Who's the REAL terorists here?
