The New York Times reported this morning that Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy made some inflammatory comments on race to a group of supporters -- and now the man who rallied hundreds of states' rights supporters to his side in his recent battle against federal officials is taking heat from both sides.

According to the Times, Bundy said of black people: They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail because they never learned how to pick cotton. And, I’ve often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy.

He repeated the charge later on the Peter Schiff Show when asked to clarify his remarks. I'm wondering are they happier now under this government subsidy system than they were (when) they were slaves? Bundy later said at a press conference he was just posing a "question" about whether the black community is "better off."

"Are they better off, are they happier than they was in the South?" he said.

Some Republicans like Senator Dean Heller who had embraced Bundy during the ranch standoff -- distanced themselves from the rancher.

No wonder Rand Paul and the Militia's love him.

Cliven Bundy said a lot more that what you have posted here....he is really an idiot. He also said something to the fact that blacks are living off government subsidies...what the hell, look at him, grazing his cattle on federal/public lands for free? Talk about subsidies!

He will end up in jail.

Rands not a racist any more than his father is. That's political hype. Both are actually favored by members of the black community but the media preaches otherwise, and idiots listen to the media.

But, despite that, either would be better than what we have gotten in the past.

Clive Bundy is an American rancher under attack by the govt.

I agree with his battle, doesn't mean I agree with or support his opinions on other matters, only his right to have them.

People will attack others at their weakest point. Govt, with the backing of opinionated politicos, monetary influence, and the power of their office, can create almost any illusion to further a specific agenda, using their media supporters to drive a message home to voters..... even a false narrative of racism, sins, or corruption.

How can a single person, even a family, group, or small town, hope to battle the power, money or media influence of even a single politico with an agenda, backed by regulation only they have the power to vote on, the money of wealthy crony corporations, or courts they control backing that agenda.

Don't be blinded by the narrative and lose sight of the bigger picture. Money, power and influence can buy a lot of illusion!

His message may have been lost in words, but I believe that despite his inability to clarify what he was saying, he was more or less saying that blacks are becoming the new American indian.

It wasn't that he was racially mocking them I think, but rather pointing out that like he, they were victims of a govt with an agenda, and like the American indian, were not being helped but irreparably harmed by the programs sold as "helping" them.

It was a political statement, not a racial one for the most part I believe..... voiced very badly however by a distressed rancher concerned for his own family and livelihood.

Look past the media hype and use your own interpretation and logic to consider the message.

I've heard much worse,,,and from allegedl 'educated' folks

mainly because 'blacks' have never had 'government subsidy'

truth is those brought as slaves didn't have 'family and do other things' as they mostly had to WORK and be subservient to Caucasians,,,,they were a product, not a person,,,

truth is 'subsidies' had to be fought and earned for minorities, long after they had been made AVAILABLE for others

there was no time that blacks have been specifically 'subsidized' as a group, but always have been maintained at the bottom where they started,,,,,,,with the 'illusion' of being 'included'

it would seem less silly of a question if it had been posed perhaps about segregation,, at least it would be accurate that blacks could 'have family and do other things',,,,and there was perhaps more of an atmosphere of 'unity' amongst each other instead of competitition to be the ones who could 'get out' of the community and circumstance,,,,more was done by minorities to bring their communities up instead of just personal status and desire,,,more was done towards maintaining strong families and children instead of making sure they 'had more' like their counterparts,,,,

LOL.......I just watched the WHOLE interview, speech, whatever you want to claim it was, but one thing it's not is racist. Too many of you believe what you hear and don't make your own decisions. Too easy to let MSM do it for you I guess.

He will be, along with all the Militia members who aimed guns at law enforcement. You don't think the government doesn't know who they are? You think they didn't have constant satellite and possible drone feeds 24/7?

I hope they do put these criminals in jail and let the courts settle it.

They may think they have one, but this administration isn't one for losing, Obama is way too much of a narcissist for that. They will just go in heavier next time which I am guessing will be soon.

it was a bad comparison,,,hopeful he will correct it in the future

In 1860, 89 percent of the nation's African Americans were slaves; blacks formed 13 percent of the country's population and 33 percent of the South's population

http://www.gilderlehrman.org/history-by-era/slavery-and-anti-slavery/resources/facts-about-slave-trade-and-slavery

these families worked from very young ages and for very long hours, with no rights, whether that is somehow better than sitting out front together with 'nothing' to do,,,,,,,

just seems a ridiculous thing to ponder,, but that's one persons opinion,,,,

not to mention it makes me wonder if this man spent the day with 'every' one of these negros(since his claim is that EVERY one was doing this) to validate their reason for being outside or even validate whether that is ALL they were doing or had nothing else they may have done before or after he saw them,,,lol

anyway, I do believe its much ado about nothing, he has no power over anyones life, he is older, and his views are not the least surprising,,,,,

Seems you too didn't watch the "full" video. He wasn't mocking blacks at all, just a govt who has taken our jobs, our wealth, made us prisoners and criminals in and of a society they created, then put the blame on each of us by pitting us against one another as the cause..... not knowing what is good for ourselves so they must do it for us!

It was the irresponsibility of govt and its failure to work for the people he was protesting....NOT BLACKS!

That's what his video was stating!

What he is saying is that NOBODY is better off today than they were and casting the blame on the real source of the problem..... a bloated govt thinking it has power over the people rather than the other way around!

Because he is Moderate on ONE issue doesn't make him Moderate. He is a strong Conservative on every other issue, even on this one he isn't for Amnesty. He would do the right thing, he just gets emotional because he married an immigrant.
