Hi.. welcome to our lil corner of the internet..

my suggestion would be to follow your heart!

personally?? I'd do it.. but that's just me.. I love traveling and seeing what everyone ELSE is doin (culturally and checkin out the historical corners of the world) but this is a personal choice you have to make.. what's best for YOU..

here's a thought.. there's a lot of people from all OVER the globe on this site.. get to know'em by posting etc and make friends.. then you can visit THEIR countries ta start.. perhaps then traveling alone might not be sooo scary

good luck on your choices!! drinker

good for you takin the first step.. I'm a history buff too and have MANY places I yet wanna visit.. I've only been to a few awesome places so far.. Rome was an historical candy-land.. however it can be rather costly.. Egypt was freakin TERRIFYin.. but I'd STRONGLY suggest if you go there, check the political climate first, however make sure you have an ARMED guided tour..ya don't wanna be goin solo THERE!!! scared MALTA was an absolute JOY..lotsa history and really wonderful people!! Turkey.. well.. see Egypt  and Spain.. beautiful, great people..

I've been thinkin along similar lines as you.. now that the kids are gone and I'm alone in this huge place.. but.. gotta finish the reno's before I sell.. lookin for a bigger payday so I can LIVE on a cruise line and jump ship to ship to see what I've NOT yet seen

Welcome. I understand ur current situation and the difficulties u recently had. Because of that I would forgo making any decisions right now... But if u want to do something, learn a second or third language, and visit every religious temple around ur area to familiarize urself with several "cultures" (since ur interested in other cultures this would b a way to start near u). Temples usually have a day with the community and I can think of no better way to get ur feet wet, sorta speaking.

Just saying... good luck 2u!

I too was in your situation. I had a traumatic brain injury and I had to learn to walk, talk read, write all that stuff, well just as I was finally getting to wear It was not a struggle, my fiance left me. All my children where grown up and here I was by myself. So, I went to Amsterdam and just had a great time. Came home, and went back. Then I traveled to China, Vietnam, Cambodia, France, England, and last one was Ukraine, which I would surely go back. I have been on 12 cruise but with my partner and now want to go on them again but not alone.

If you got the bug do it now, you might find someone late and never get to. There are plenty of ways to travel cheap.

Maybe I will run into you someday traveling.
