LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Stevie Wonder said the mayor of Ferguson, Missouri, isn't seeing the full picture a month after an unarmed black 18-year-old was killed by a white police officer.

"I don't know if the mayor has blinders on," Wonder said in an interview Wednesday. "But to say that he didn't know that there was a racial or cultural problem in the city is unfortunate."

Wonder said he approved of how President Barack Obama has responded to protests in the city following Michael Brown's death last month. As the unrest drew worldwide attention, Ferguson Mayor James Knowles told reporters that there was no "racial divide" there.

Wonder spoke after announcing a fall North American tour highlighting his Grammy-winning 1976 double album "Songs in the Key of Life."

The concerts will include performances of new songs culled from the 40 to 50 tunes Wonder wrote for an upcoming album, he said in the interview. He hopes to begin releasing singles from the album, titled "Through the Eyes of Wonder," in February.

Wonder said his new music was partly inspired by monitoring world news, from clashes in the Middle East to cultural differences in the U.S.

"Obviously the good, the bad and the ugly, I've seen it all. I check out all of it," he said. "I am always challenged (by) anything that's negative to write something like ... how can we take it from that wrong place to getting it back to the right place?"

"Unfortunately we're living in a time of disposable love and we've got to get it from that place to really valuing life, valuing love and valuing each other."

Wonder's tour is set to begin Nov. 6 in New York City and continue through 10 more cities, ending in Oakland, California, in December.

lol @ has been

its called 'legend',, like our founding fathers aren't 'has beens' but 'legends'

I know, we will apply semantics subjectively,,

whatever,,,, no one here has a legal background or much experience with welfare or having babies,,, let them tell it

but there is no shortage of sharing opinions on it,,,,

guess celebs should just swallow their freedom of speech unless what they have to say is popular,,,,,lol

You may be right.

About only half of his rant was about his concert tour.

actually not a rant

but an EDITED commentary about parts of an INTERVIEW he participated in

, granted the reporter gives no reference to where the entire interview can be read,, which is poor REPORTING,,

but the Wonder, was correct nonetheless in his opinions,, whatever the questions were which prompted them,,,

Comme ci comme a

To each his own

C'est la vie

As es la vida

Funny, no? He had no opinion on Dead Thug #1, #2, or even maybe Rodney King. Conveniently, ranting on this one which, is conveniently timed with his TOUR that is about to start.

FREE PUBLICITY. How cool is that? And folks are likely to read it instead of some radio ad promoting his tour.

Steebie neeedie mo moneeey.

How do you know he had 'no opinion'?

Interviews usually follow the format of

interviewers QUESTION on something,,,

interviewees Response to question

IF he was ever interviewed about his opinion on anything mentioned above, Im SURE he had and gave an opinion...

Stevie Wonder has every right to voice an opinion on a political/sociological issue, whether it appears he has a dog in the fight, or not. Several other "washed up has-beens" have done so.

Ronald Reagan, a "has-been" actor, sure had a lot to say about Roe vs. Wade. Charlton Heston, a "has-been" actor, sure had a lot to say about the whys/whens/wherefores/how-tos of being able to blow each other's brains out. Arnold Schwarzenegger, aka "The Governator", sure flexed his muscles with his stance on same-sex marriage.

Any similar problems with those entertainment "has-beens" having one or two things to say about one or two things?

Not arguing that.

Just coincidence his rant comes at the same, exact time he's advertising his tour?

I groove on Clarence Carter. Been to a few of his shows.

It is coincidence that these two social events are happening in the same period

he didn't orchestrate ferguson, and I doubt his tour was only just planned AFTER Ferguson

but being asked about current events during the time that he is going to tour is very intentional on the INTERVIEWERS part,,,

Many of the similar - yet completely different, of course - examples I gave simply had their "rants" the closer it got to (re)election time.

The timing of Mr. Wonder's "rant" probably has more to do with being interviewed by a publication because he's about to go on tour and the reporter asked him questions about current events.

Completely different than saying things simply to garner votes and paying to get your spots on the air TO share the good word, I agree.

No need.

Got access to gazillions more.

Stevie was once great. I got laid using a lot of his material.

Now, he sounds like that dude who plays the clarinet or flute. Don't remember which. Just knows that he and Stevie both blow.

He made his point and got his free publicity. All the best to him.

Just caught this part of the article. You might enjoy the humor, maybe.

(Stevie Wonder said the mayor of Ferguson, Missouri, isn't seeing the full picture)

Neither does Stevie.
