CAUGHT ON VIDEO: Husband of Democratic State Senator Charged With Stealing Election Signs

On Wednesday, the Police in Middletown, Delaware issued an arrest warrant for Dana Long, the husband of Democratic Senator Bethany Hall-Long, on the charge of stealing campaign signs left on the roadway, such as the one featured in the video above that says, "Fix the Economy! Vote Republican."

According to Delaware Online, the video from First State Liberty was taken after "28 signs were placed on Middletown Odessa Road at Silver Lake Road, and on the 700 block of Middletown Odessa Road," on Sunday, removed and then replaced by the campaign volunteers on Monday, and then once again removed.

Campaign volunteers arrived with video cameras to stake out the spot where the signs had been removed, at 2:35am on Wednesday morning. In the video, they pointed out what the signs looked like, along the fact that they were labeled "Paid for by The Republican Party of Delaware."

At 4:01am, the volunteers reported that a car pulled up, a man got out, and he started lifting campaign signs.

Oh yes, the state of politics in what used to be the strongest nation on earth. And to imagine a Senator, the first of the perversions of the constitution with the resultant weakening of the balance of powers.

The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, elected by the people thereof, for six years; and each Senator shall have one vote. The electors in each State shall have the qualifications requisite for electors of the most numerous branch of the State legislatures.

When vacancies happen in the representation of any State in the Senate, the executive authority of such State shall issue writs of election to fill such vacancies: Provided, That the legislature of any State may empower the executive thereof to make temporary appointments until the people fill the vacancies by election as the legislature may direct.
This amendment shall not be so construed as to affect the election or term of any Senator chosen before it becomes valid as part of the Constitution.

I have a hunch it was more then the one incident. It was reported when he was video taped stealing the signs it was the third time in a week that the signs were stolen from the same locations. I don't understand why he is not charged with Burglary since he clearly had the intent to steal. Also they should have gotten him for Grand Larceny. Those signs aren't cheap. If they got an actual price on the signs and determined the amount of the loss or damage I am sure it is well over $250.00 (I believe Grand Larceny in that state is $250.00 and up, if not it is $650.00 and up which I am sure he was well over). I hope he gets the maximum prison term and fines and I hope his wife loses the election and hopefully gets charged as a conspirator.

Hell, they could probably get him for Destruction of Property and Trespassing. If I were the homeowner I would be pressing charges.

I bet that the District Attorney is probably a Libbo since this criminal was given a HUGE break on the charges.

The husband of a Delaware state senator was arrested after he was caught on video taking down political signs erected by Republicans, authorities said Thursday.

In a video posted to YouTube on Wednesday, Dana Armon Long, whose wife is Democratic state Sen. Bethany Hall-Long of Middletown, is shown carrying a handful of signs to his car. A man with a video camera appears to take Long by surprise and asks him what he's doing. Long unsuccessfully tries to hide behind the signs and says there was no name on the signs.

"We gotcha, brother," the man with the video camera tells Long. "We got your license plate, your face and everything."

The video had about 29,000 views Thursday.

An arrest warrant was issued for Long on Wednesday after police watched the video, Middletown Police Chief Daniel Yeager said. Long turned himself in Thursday, when he was arrested on a theft charge and released on bond, Yeager said.

"The tape doesn't tell a lie," Yeager said.

The charge against Long is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in prison and a fine up to $2,300.

Long was filmed taking signs along the same road where 28 Republican signs were stolen after being erected on Sunday. The signs were replaced and disappeared again Tuesday. The signs that Long was filmed taking were the third round of replacements, according to a Middletown police report.

Hall-Long, who is running against Republican John Marino in Tuesday's election, said in a statement that she was disappointed and that her husband turned the stolen signs over to local Democratic party officials, to be given back to the Republicans.

"Sadly, this race has become tough and personal," Hall-Long said. "My husband is my high school sweetheart and he loves me very much. I was not aware that he had allowed his frustration over the campaign attacks to get the better of him."

this has happened in my town a number of occasions... both parties were guilty.

For the most part it was jealous or zealous "newbies" running for low level type political positions. ( mayor, councilman, county positions)

the stick these signs everywhere and think people start to get mad at that and then stuff starts happening.

I came home from work one day and there was one planted in MY yard.. problem was... no one asked me.. and I didn't even know the guy

I winged it right onto the street.
