stay home. backpacking ain't what it used to be

if you want to visit foreign places, you might find it safer to get to know a few people on mingle from where you want to visit. then set up a meet and greet. if those people are half as friendly as folks from texas, you'll have a place to stay, food to eat, and be shown the local attractions. just in case, have a plan b where you have a reservation at a hotel. if the meet and greet doesn't pan out you can still check into the hotel and have a mini-vacation on your own

i guarantee i guarantee you should make it a meet and greet involving several people, because meeting up with just one person can get very uncomfortable very quickly

(bulldog double guarantee - patent pending)

There are many back packers from U.S and Europ, Australia etc that visit my part of Africa (Southern Africa).

However i noticed most of them are dirty and stink & just look trashy. Some think Africa is nothing, yet when they get here they realize how trendy it is with wealthy people and a booming economy & people with style and grace ....not the crap they show on tv

However it is not cheap here. The only thing cheap compared to other nations must be the local beer. Other then that its expensive lifestyle

So is Alaska, we get a lot of backpackers on bicycles, just be careful what you have and do with the food the bears love it if you don't hang it high. I have space for a tent or two out on the Kenai. Lots come for our Salmonstock..three days of three stages of bands and fish:thumbsup: waving

WOW Thank you so much Albyak.
I am not actually a backpacker but backpacking is in my bucket list.
Travelled mostly in Asia and some parts of EU, looking at the US and latin America.
Thanks everyone.

Or visit the world while "volunteering".

We signed up with Original Volunteers and had a fantastic time. You do pay for the priviledge, but it's not much and I can honestly say that eveyone you meet is entirely genuine and very very friendly. I spent 3 months in Utila, and in down-time swam with whalesharks, swam with pod of dolphins in ocean (not a swimming pool), scuba'd, snorkelled etc etc etc. absolutely fantastic. Plus we got hands on with a critically endangered species, loads of wildlife, trampled the mangroves forests, watched leaf cutter ants for hours and hours (they are just like that cartoon ANTS ... absolutely fascinating).

GO VOLUNTEER ...

Edit: Until we went, never actually realised just how popular volunteering was, but loads and load of people do it and absolutely no age limit ...

The cheapest must be Antarctica? No hotels, no pubs and having to catch your own fish and Penguins? Just wrap up very warm though? Ha ha

Saw you had viewed my profile, the last photo is on creek property I own within 20 miles of Disney, no facilities , but the county is building a wilderness Canoe-Kayak launch beside it so may have at least restrooms available soon...if you get this way sometime?? who knows I use my self contained motor home. Florida Trail is also coming through the area soon for backpacking and hiking.

Do you think i'm daft? I know it's a continent, but at the same time i don't see it broke up into seperate countries either, eh? The only thing i do see it under is different countries so called divisions. Not as if me, you or any of our friends are going to move there and live our normal lives in -40 or -50 degrees temperatures though? Yer mad if you do lassie? laugh laugh

For overseas visitors, the Rand exchange rate gives more for your money

I manage a backpacker on the southern coast of South Africa. I have 11 years experience and love having international visitors come stay with me. There are so many fun experiences and things to do here from safaris to bungee jumps to rural accommodation.
