In everyday life,in real person all you see is people getting mean to each other. I like to think that most of them don't intend to. But seriously words can hurt. I mean, think about it. About all those things we say or don't say everyday, that seem meaningless to us. For example, during an argument, why bother being hurtful? Why don't we just take a moment,a little breath to try and understand other people's lives, trauma, complexes and embrace it in the way we would want someone to do so for us,instead of automatically assume that they should think and feel the way we do,and if they don't,we ''attack'' them?

whats good is bad, whats bad is good,,,

spinsters have made everything grey

sign of the times

'honesty' is the virtue that makes hurtful words a badge of honor for too many,,

Exactly. But it's not just a matter of ''honesty'' or courtesy. It's about understanding. Caring. Open mind. You can't just disagree with someone, tell him to f**k off or hurt him and then go home praising yourself for being smarter or anything. It's just sad what we've become.

agreed. If we made the quest to be more decent as much as we did to be more wealthy, or powerful, or beautiful, or independent,,,,,,,

what potential the world would have,,,

I have no control over what others do all
I am responsible for is for me and how I conduct myself.
So honestly I look at others at their actions are theirs
and I don't take it on myself.

So when and if I am rude which I can be I apologize for it
and move on..It is up to them if they accept it or not.

I don;t think most people are rude on purpose...sometimes we get stuck in our heads and act or speak carelessly....that's life

an apology is great Sitka. I can think of countless times when that would have been a very nice thing to hear.

and a few times when I should have tooslaphead oops

in a word, here's what's missing

Empathy is the capacity to understand what another person is experiencing from within the other person's frame of reference, ie, the capacity to place oneself in another's shoes

except for the completely sociopathic I think empathy is something people strive for even without thinking

we say things like

OMG how awful she must have felt when Aunt Alice passed etc etc

but sometimes we forget .... we get busy empathizing with our own situation....hard to see around that to the others ... sometimesohwell

i hear you bro. sometimes people get hell bent on wanting others to act a certain way, believe in certain things, etc. and they get so into themselves that they will lash out in very negative ways

People are human. We all make mistakes and do things regrettable. I have lashed back when attacked but I feel bad for it. There are some that don't feel remorse and even thinks it makes them superior...arrogant people, bullies, sociopaths and narcissists (my ex was one)

Some feel to put others down lifts them up.

A decent person can do or say things that hurt, but they feel remorse. A mature person feels remorse, owns up and apologizes and makes amends when possible
