Following several high-profile civilian deaths at the hands of police officers, many Americans have called for the mandatory use of body cameras by law enforcement as a means of curbing the excessive use of force and providing clear accounts of officers' actions. Here are some of the pros and cons of body cameras for police officers:

PROS

Provides accurate record of where police were when they turned off their body camera

Helps to reinstate trust between Americans and surveillance

Unlimited footage of police officers breathing heavily during a foot chase

Turning camera askew allows officers to record beatings with stylish Dutch angles

More things to watch

Finally gives Americans glimpse at what it's like to turn on that siren and gun it straight through a red light

CONS

Major invasion of privacy for police officer and man he has in chokehold

Costs money that could be used on machine guns and armored vehicles

Police brutality might lose its mystique

Those could be anyone's arms bashing citizen with nightstick

Distracting to officers who must now shift focus to cinematography and mise en scne

Is still only going to be the irrefutable video evidence's word against the police officer's

tsk tsk tsk....this ^^ almost looks as if you were the one who wrote these words...

i can understand wanting to be satirical...but to cut and paste without giving credit to the original source of the satire is nothing but petty plagerism...

It is too bad that RawStory.com didn't give a complete report about Bob Bates' background, because Bates is a graduate of the Tulsa Police Academy. He was a police officer at one time before he returned to working in the private sector.

Well I can if you want....since you mentioned here....

.....how, when questioned about knowing if a source was satirical or not, you replied:

yea, some things i post are... sometimes
people catch it, sometimes not..

It seems to imply youre willing to play both sides of the fence.....depending on which direction your thread takes. But, to your credit, it really is up to the reader to know what sources are bs, and what sources are not.
Youre very entertaining to me, you make me laugh...kinda like Larry the Cable Guy does.

(Btw, I wouldnt have mentioned an The Onion article if I wanted to make a serious thread anyway, but thats just me. Carry on, Ill be here chuckling.)

Duly noted......btw, my first post here wasnt a dig at you not posting a link. Was only answering to a post questioning the lack of one.
Confirmation bias is a bee-yatch laugh Been there, done that. Have a great night good sir.

It is a stupid idea that won't change anything.

We had a case here recently where a local chief of police was stopped for almost sideswiping a sheriffs deputies car and the entire traffic stop was video and audio recorded. The chief was drunk off his a$$. He failed the field sobriety test, refused a breathalizer and when it went to court the judge found him not guilty.

seems that the cameras wouldn't be necessary if the "higher ups" would take a stand and change the officers themselves...
