Just curious, has anyone ever phoned one of these phone numbers that you get in PMs? Just for the heck of it?

Would they really be their own phone numbers, I wonder? I mean, you wouldn't send out your own number randomly to just anyone unless it was a burner? Or are these numbers as fake as the people who send them?

And do women send their phone numbers to you guys as well?

Good question. I have gotten requests to text right away or as an answer to my first message. I have never called or texted one but have asked that they talk to me here a little first so I know a little about them (as if that wouldn't be bovine feces as well) before I give them my number. Not one has messaged back after that. As of yet no I haven't. I wish I was fluent in Swahili so I could call the number out of the blue at 4:00am and cuss them out in a language they couldn't understand.

It's a Magic Jack phone number that is not real and associated with a scam.
You can get a phone number in any area code, any state, to make it look legit.
Buying a phone number means the buyer can pick the phone number, including the area code.

I did ring a number when i first came on here and didn't know any better. As WonderWoman said, scammers can get a local country code anyway, but it's still worth checking because i've had lots of 0702 numbers which are country divert premium numbers. The one i called was an English code, but i knew straight away when i called because the UK repeats two short rings until answered, and other countries use one long repeated ring. This was a long one so the call was ended quickly and the username blocked from my contacts...
It's all about time and chat/messages isn't it ? Hopefully getting a 'feeling' that he/she is genuine and you both have a need to hear eachothers voices because words on a screen aren't enough anymore

Before scammers were dropping their yahoo ids and emails. But now, with the development of all these sites where you can get a FREE US number and text online, it is becoming an alternative to YIM.

So ... associated with a scam. What does that mean though?
Does your phone get hacked, they nick your passwords and rob you blind?
Do you get the 'scammer's-call centre'?
Or would you get some person on the line with a sob story, trying to get you to send money?
What IS the scam?

I did he said he was from England when I rung found out he was Indian. I told him he was a disgrace to his family and country. I told him I informed the police and they are tracking them down. He never made contact with me again.

It's all about money scams.
They're hunting through chat rooms, dating sites and social networking sites searching for victims, looking to cash in on romance.

One guy I did. I'm very careful, though. I got to know him a lot, before considering whether it felt right. I don't give my number to just anyone. I'm not vulnerable. I have common sense.

And do women send their phone numbers to you guys as well?

no, but I've blocked my fair share laugh

Women, or I guess I should say scammers pretending to be women, do send phone numbers to us.
I find the same thing as germanchoclate1981 mentions, ask them to keep talking on Mingle and they mysteriously vanish.

I've had a few that don't even bother to say hello in the first message, they just leave a number and nothing else.
So I take their number and sign them up on a couple of sites for text messaging alerts, news headlines, health tips during their pregnancy, stuff like that.
Not sure if it annoys them or not but it makes me feel better shades
