My ex was always joking (I think) that in an emergency she would save the dogs and cats before her mom. So whats the first thing you would save in an emergency or natural disaster?

you family comes before anything.. anything

But I will tell you a true story, I have a brother who is a fireman in NYC and during a tenement building fire he was on the top of the hook and ladder try to save people by taking them out the window.. flames roaring and the guy in the apartment went to hand him his parakeet.. before his son

Of course he told him to " gimme the kid!!"

People don't always think as well as they think they will, when emergencies happen. That's why advanced planning with serious thought is so important.

I'd bet the guy with the parakeet was confusedly thinking that HE would grab his kid, after he handed the parakeet of to the stranger in the water slicker.

Everything truly valuable to me lives somewhere else or is in my will so I would probably just open the birdcage and the patio door and walk out and let it go. Sure not worth an emergency workers life.

I have started with nothing before.

I might just lay down on my own bed and let the smoke or water or whatever get me. I have lead a full life. Nobody should ever weep for me when I am gone home. Not afraid to meet my maker again.

My ***?

And after that it depends on the exact nature of the emergency or natural disaster?
I mean is my house flooding and I need a boat? Is it on fire and full of smoke and I'm seconds from dying? Is there a hurricane due next tuesday? Am I in the middle of an earthquake and can't stand?

Hello PacificStar48flowerforyou
Life can be hard and it will sometimes bring you down to your knees.
No matter what you're going through, there's a light at the end of the tunnel.
Be strong and have faith! I wish you all the best.

Everything outside of my dog can be replaced.
All important papers etc are in safety deposit box or fireproof safe..
so my butt and the dog...

Material things can be replaced.

Don't panic my friends you can't get rid of me that easy. I am just saying I really don't worry about disaster or such things all that much. If it were a huge major disaster I knew I could not survive I just wouldn't do any kind of desperate flight kind of run. I am kind of like the Captain that goes down with the ship. And yea I probably don't really want to be a refugee again. Been there, done that, got that t-shirt.

pets have a natural survival instinct, its how they are made to survive on their own with other animals

PEOPLE come first in saving,, with children first on the list and then elderly

It depends on the situation, I live alone so my first instinct would be to save my dog.
