Now, that you mention it, that "white privilege" comment in the article really rankled me, too. After reverse discrimination and all kinds of other indignities endured by whites nowadays, who by the way are a diminishing race by population growth compared to the rest of the world, an endangered species, that comment had no place anywhere. Bogus, man!

she may be referring to 'implicit bias' where the majority sets the norm and relates to others within their 'group' with more apathy/empathy/comradery than they do those in the minority

the bias that may make a police man, see the majority group with more empathy, see the white suspect as less of a 'threat',,,,than the black one,,,

what group is guilty of 'reverse discrimination' of another group?

black people collectively dont have the wealth or power to impact the majority,,,

what group is forcing indignities upon whites

,,,In america?

I agree, whites are diminishing and perhaps once they become a true MINORITY , they may face a privilege that belongs to a different majority,,

but for now,, not so much

It is perverted. I think it's a further disgrace to the dead young man. What little he had. I'm surprised the Brown family allows it.
You mean the Brown family that actually fought with each other over the sale of tshirts? And I mean fought, not argued laugh
I think theyre bigger attention whores than this "artist".

Yea, I forgot about that. Maybe their getting a buck from it.laugh

(CHICAGO) – A new art exhibit about the Michael Brown police shooting in Ferguson is on display in Chicago.

The piece features a life-size portrayal of Michael Brown after he was killed last year in Ferguson.

It also includes a black statue of liberty, and a noose dangling from a neon sign.

The exhibit also features a plaque with the words “I Can’t Breath”; referencing the Eric Garner police involved death in New York.

A Brown family member praises the exhibit.

The artist is a white woman from New Orleans.

She says it represents white privilege in America and how it negatively affects the black community.

The exhibit runs through August 10th.

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/michael-brown-father-chicago-art-exhibit-on-ferguson-teens-death-disgusting/

CBS Chicago
CHICAGO -- It's art imitating life that some say goes too far.

A graphic exhibit of the shooting death of Ferguson teen Michael Brown by a white police officer is on display in Chicago. Even Brown's father won't view it.

CBS Chicago's Mike Parker reports the art gallery on East 47th Street is the now at the center of a controversy. The owners have received hate mail and threats about one of their exhibits

It graphically recalls a shooting death that exploded across the nation last year.

The exhibit is a white artist's re-creation of Michael Brown's lifeless body lying face down, uncovered, as part of a Chicago exhibit on white privilege.

It is stark and shocking and it has had a profound effect on his father.

"I really, really would like them to take that away," Brown said. "I think it's really disturbing, disgusting. I keep the thought, that thought, that picture is still in my head."

The owners of the Gallery Guichard say they have no intention of covering up or removing the exhibit without first discussing it with the artist.

"The installation doesn't say it's for or against any side," said owner Andre Guichard. "It really just says now that he has left us, he's an angel."

Indeed part of the exhibit is a video of singer Eartha Kitt, singing "Angelitos Negros."

"I have no problem with the person that created that but I think they should have reached out to both sides of the family," Brown said.

Michael Brown's mother was at the exhibit's opening last week, but asked that the depiction of her dead son's body be covered while she was there.

Ti-Rock Moore, the white artist who designed the exhibit, told the Guardian newspaper: "We're living in a society of very complicated systems that create advantages for white people, and disadvantages for others. That's what my work is about."

There were almost twice as many "whites" killed by cops as there were "blacks".

So I guess because "whites" are receiving much more of something, it's because of "Privilege"?

Heck, the area I live in has triple the amount of poor white people, vs poor black or other minorities, and we have a pretty significant minority population, I'd say it's 60/40. I know I'm not really feelin the privilege, especially with such a large amount being taken out each MEAGER paycheck to support all the leaches.

Guess we'll chalk up the omission of the box of stolen cigars, and the blood of both the store clerk that Brown assaulted and that of Officer Wilson, who was attacked in his car, as "artistic license." His rap sheet might also be stapled to the wall, but maybe a struggling artist couldn't afford enough thumb tacks.

Is there also a continual loop playing of the stepfather's mantra of "burn this mother__ down?"

If it was a black artist I wonder if there would be such an outrage against it. There is no such thing as white privilege. You get what you earn in this life. Life is all about the choices you make. Michael Brown was a thug who beat up an old man, robbed a store and attacked a police officer. Why would you want an art display about a criminal.

Unfortunately there will always be those who worship criminals and feel that negative consequences are not a result of negative choices, but are completely outside of their realm of control. This is just an example of such, and I definitely agree with you, had the artist been black, it would be hailed as genius and moving, and no one would have a bad word to say about it.
