Topic: Profile limits

Just a thought, that passes thru my mind, on a regular basis.
I am NOT seeking a relationship, but do enjoy good conversation.
I see a person, would like to say something to them.
Milage or age limits on their profile.
Makes me wonder, HOW MANY poss. wonderful contacts do we miss, by putting limits on our lives. We all know how to say NO THANKS & delete/block. We all can ignore anything we chose to. We all are in charge of our mail.

Anyone else ever think like this?

oldsage there's a reason why i put a limit on my profile, i have an older man harassing me and copied my site and e-mailed it to other people, that is why I put the limit on mine, but you can contact me anytime. Usually there are reasons for people doing this, and it may not always be the reason you may think.

I understand not wanting to be harrassed, just block & let the owners know.

Sorry oldsage, i don't want to even take a chance looking for him, i don't know what his handle is either, so I just don't pick that age range.

Well I think .. but not the same way bigsmile

I've online dated for 3 1/2 years. (ya, ya I'm a vet.smokin ) I've met over 75 men & some women in person. I'm online for dating sometimes, and always on for friends.

I DO put that I DATE younger. Yes, I DO know how to say 'no thanks' but honestly, many men don't know how to take that message. I've had so many men my age or older that get their 'shorts in a bunch' becuz I'm not interested in that age group. WTH. I mean I've had grown men get downright UGLY with me. I've never had a younger guy do that. They are insulted I'm not interested in their age group. Sorry. It's my life and I have my reasons. Most of it experience. But it's easier for me to explain that for DATING .. keep it younger.

For friends? Well even though my closest friends are also a generation behind me, I welcome friends of any and all ages.

And one other though sage. Just becuz YOU know you aren't looking for a relationship, women don't know that til we get talking to you. Just a thought.

I do agree if it's a limit that keeps me from talking to the person at all. Ie, I've put my PREFERENCE, and not a LIMIT. I wanted to say hi to a guy from an old site, but he has an age limit and I don't fit in it. So hey, he missed out. I DO see your point with LIMITS, but wouldn't include preferences.

And maybe that's all you meant. he he he

Sage, I do sometimes wonder about those who will only accept e-mail from people within certain age and distance parameters. It's like they're saying "If you're too young or too old, or you live too far away, you couldn't POSSIBLY have anything useful or interesting to say."

Whatever....

I look at it this way -- I'll be friends with anybody, and I have no restrictions on my e-mail at all. You want to write, do it! And I pretty much reply to everybody except obvious nutjobs.

But I do try to make it very clear that I am much more selective when it comes to "relationship prospects" (of which there aren't any here, anyway) because I don't want to mislead anybody.

But for friends, though -- well, I think it's kind of nice to be able to talk to people from all over the world. And who cares how old they are? Good communication isn't based on personal statistics....

I agree Sage! I have no limits on my mail.
Anyone can e-mail me. I talk to alot of people on here.

You might miss out on someone really nice if you have your limits set on here. You can allways block someone- if they are someone you do not want to talk to.

Many times I have tried to compliament or say hi to someone and they have limits set.

I have no restrictions. And I've only blocked 2 people not because they were offensive or obtrusive but because they sent me a jello virus that slowed my pc down in an attempt to be funny. Wasn't funny.

that line on the bottom which says you must be to email and refuses to let you through if you are outside those requirments. should be changed to say I prefer that you live a certain distance from me, I prefer that you be in a certain age group, I think most people can understand that. have had two ladies ask me mail them when they have read something in the forum that Iwrote. could not mail them I was not within the limits they had.

This is intereseting topic. It can go so many ways on different opinions. It's all in preference and the way we are taught in society as looking at the different generations. I agree with Lex&Oldsage, it's nice having an open mind to who ever you might meet. But at the same time as far as the ladys go. Why would I want so many email of just straight out rude people. It's not like your going to hear guys complaining about that there are to many women sending me sexual comments etc etc.
