We have a very old, very tall pecan tree in the front yard. It has many monstrous bowing branches. A couple of weeks ago a branch came down; green, to our surprise. Just yesterday, we finally finished clearing it and chopping it up for firewood.

Last night, I awoke to a chilling ripping sound and subsequent sound of a crash. Yet, another huge monstrous branch had fallen. It was green as well. We are puzzled.

There has been lots of rain and there are many new pecans on the tree. But there are no squirrels for some reason. They have disappeared.

We're going to call the tree guy to see what he thinks but I thought I'd ask here as well.



Any response welcome -- funny or serious.

I would just pick off all the pecan pies and leave the rest alone.

I do love pecan pie! And roasted pecans. Good thought!

I am curious what does the top of the tree look like and are these main branches...

We used to have fig and kumquat trees. Those were my favorites! Fig trees are beautiful.

Thanks, soufie! I always take our dog out in the morning, drink a coffee and just stare at the trees. So peaceful.

In the UK we have a secretive police force called 'special branch'

Maybe the tree is really an undercover cop, just a thought

I will look at that tree differently, now.

Beautiful tree... I love sitting out on the deck with first cup of coffee and enjoying the world waking up around me.

Have you guys called a tree doctor yet { I know there is a correct name and I can't think of it}lol...

Yeah. We just took off a few branches. But I still try not to walk under that tree.
