Always impressed with multiple language speakers and encourage it in my kids; have one son who speaks fairly fluently seven languages but that is his big thing.

I would caution people who are multiple language speakers not to "copy" phrases or profiles you read because then you are going to be seen as speaking "scammer" because it is how many of the scammers do work.

And if you are a legit person who dates from online profiles the copied ones are glaringly common and not flattering to the writer or the receiver because then you look deceitful, lazy, or to illiterate to write your own profile. Even if you are using the sometimes poetic commonly acceptable phrases.

And using the personality tests or horoscope type descriptions to capture who you are is going to sound just as phony or worse like you have had way too much psychotherapy.

that does seem very strange the your dad would want to curb you learning another language rather than encourage it!
i would totally encourage my kids to learn as many languages as possible

i am mono linguistic. more commonly known as americanblushing

I believe this is the "curse" of big nations speaking world languages. In this respect it is better to come from little nations speaking obscure languages -- you are simply forced to learn other languages...

I fluently speak Slovene and English, am almost good in Croatian and know some Italian.

i always think that being born in an English speaking country is a hindrance rather than a blessing, as it breeds laziness in the sense that we don't tend to think we need to learn other languages.

More than 70 percent of Nigerians can speak and understand two languages, English and their native language. A good number speak two of the three major languages.

There is also the " pidgin EngliSh"
