For me it depends who it is and the situation.

When I was growing up YES it mattered a lot what others thought of me. To the point it didn't matter what I thought since others had to have so much more knowledge than I did.

As I got older and hopefully a bit wiser, it depended on who they were in my life.

Professionally speaking if what a colleague thought about me personally not so much as to what they thought of me professionally.

What family thinks me does matter to a point. What loved ones think of me does matter to a point. The bottom line for me though and has been for a long time is what do I think.

Am I content with who I am? Am I being an ugly person inside ? I try to do self checks and me and what I am projecting. If I am doing okay I don't worry about it.

There are some people I honestly don't care what they think of me. Those people I believe are projecting their issues onto me so therefore I consider the source

I use to. Now I only care what my kids think. Ive wasted enough years on that toxic line of thinking.

Many says,"they don't care!" but the FACT is that we human beings are social animals and are constantly bound by folkways, mores & laws
throughout over lives......those who think they don't care of what other's think about them would have wandered naked at least for some time along the street on a shiny day....if they really haven't bothered about what other's think.

I don't like to take crap from people or to be slighted. Maybe it's a scorpio thing but I'll pay back an insult. If it's someone that's close to me I can maybe take a bit of criticism or sarcasm from them but two can play at that game. The way that I see it, friends maybe have a right to get a bit personal with me but I don't see why I should take that from anyone else.

Saying that, I've trained myself to pretty much not care when it's people on the internet and sometimes I find it amusing when they try to flame me. It's amazing how many assumptions and generalisations people can make about you if you just give them a little bit of personal information. I had a guy once taking a dislike to me just because somebody mentioned that I was British and an Englishman had once insulted him.

I don't. I'm more concerned about what I think of a certain offline friend. When this friend lacks compassion and empathy, I start to feel inadequate to this person.
