Which version of "Eastern" or "Western" are we talking about? despite the sloppy way that many in the mass media talk about the two, there's really no set list of characteristics that mean "East" or "West."

Here in the U.S., we have groups who insist that everyone around them has to behave and dress exactly as they do. There are groups like that in the East, too.

Remember, although the flat map makers here always put the Atlantic Ocean in the center of the page, making it seem that the U.S. is in the West, and that China is in the East, in reality, there is no "east" or "west," as far as being a specific PLACE goes.

Here in the US too, a lot of Western Americans talk about "Eastern Lifestyle" as involving lots of skyscrapers, New England cottages, vine covered universities, and a relative dearth of open beaches.

Are you talking about the ability of some people in some countries to grow various intoxicating drug crops, such as cocaine, and opium? Or the ability of some people to live in relative peace, and NOT have a local tribal leader ransack the area? Or how we chase down and prosecute child molesters here in the US, but in some places they just have to pay taxes?
