Not sure what the hell you are talking about! I would recommend you change your news source tho because nothing in that statement is true!

This action is because basically, the govt, if they didn't break the law, put their own interpretation to it.

The building being occupied is in the middle of nowhere, closed, and belongs to the people, NOT the govt..... they only manage it!

Two ranchers went to court over trumped up charges of "terrorism" for setting a backfire to save their home and ranch which actually stopped an otherwise out of control fire which burned onto govt "managed" land. Years after the incident they were charged with they went to court, were sentenced, served their time and were released. Then a federal attorney decided (over the judges sentence) that they hadn't served enough time so are forcing them to return to prison for the balance of 5 years each.

The Bundys, who head the militia at the reserve, are doing so to protest the govt control of state and taxpayer financed lands, the abuses of the BLM (which claims control of over 50% of the range lands west of the rockies) to ranchers and farmers who have been given deeds, rights, and other documents for over several generations to use tend for that land. Over the last few decades however, the BLM has waged war on the family rancher/farmer in favor of corporate controlled interests wanting the land for other uses. They have shut off needed water, blocked access roads, chemically treated with poisons, raised fees, and put in place regulations and anything else they can do to place hardship on these (for many generations) family owned ranches and farms.

Since the govt ALSO controls the court system, how would you suggest they get the "fair hearings" they have been trying to get the last few decades? With senators (like Slimy Reid) and other govt officials quashing the law suits and lining their pockets with the money of the corporations wanting use of the land!

What chance does a private rancher/farmer, buried in govt imposed fees, regulations and debt, trying to make a buck in an over regulated, over taxed, Monsatan/corporate controlled industry have for that "fair trial" your so intent they disarm and move out for? slaphead

BTW.... it was a federal judge (on the local level) that imposed the "original" sentences on the ranchers stating the charges as "unreasonable" that were later overturned by this corrupt attorney and the federal court system.

The building being occupied is in the middle of nowhere, closed, and belongs to the people, NOT the govt..... they only manage it.

That's true. No one was at or around the refugee or in danger.
(There is also an 'Indian Reservation' in Oregon that NEVER had any Natives/O.P's living there, completely empty)

Two ranchers went to court over trumped up charges of "terrorism" for setting a backfire to save their home and ranch which actually stopped an otherwise out of control fire which burned onto govt "managed" land.

That is true. And backfires are COMMON practice, by Native Americans, Ranchers & also Fire fighters (Ex: fighting California wild fires). The ranchers, Hammonds (father 73 & son 46) were arrested & charged w/arson & later charged with terrorism. They were also charged a huge fine. With a clause.. If they could not pay it, the land becomes the BLM's/ the government's.

How convenient. That is the whole idea. The government has been harassing the Hammonds since the 1970's (specifically 1986, when one of the Hammond women found public documentation of lies & corruption about the so called bird sanctuary).

The government (which is the BLM) have been successful in driving out all the ranchers. The government owns all the land around the Hammonds. And has gone to great lengths to get the land (which includes minerals & rights) from this..the LAST families.

While feds and former BLM CEOs yell "lock them up!", and their media spews the govt rhetoric, locals tell another story, conflicted by the right or wrong of it, but all wish state, not federal, control of local lands!

I’m an Oregon rancher. Here’s what you don’t understand about the Bundy standoff.
The Obama administration has pushed our livelihood to the brink.

Seventy-two killed resisting gun confiscation in Boston

BOSTON
National guard units seeking to confiscate a cache of recently banned assault weapons were ambus...hed on April 19th by elements of a Para-military extremist faction. Military and law enforcement sources estimate that 72 were killed and more than 200 injured before government forces were compelled to withdraw.

Speaking after the clash, Massachusetts Governor Thomas Gage declared that the extremist faction, which was made up of local citizens, has links to the radical right-wing tax protest movement. Gage blamed the extremists for recent incidents of vandalism directed against internal revenue offices. The governor, who described the group's organizers as "criminals," issued an executive order authorizing the summary arrest of any individual who has interfered with the government's efforts to secure law and order. The military raid on the extremist arsenal followed wide-spread refusal by the local citizenry to turn over recently outlawed assault weapons.

Gage issued a ban on military-style assault weapons and ammunition earlier in the week. This decision followed a meeting in early this month between government and military leaders at which the governor authorized the forcible confiscation of illegal arms.

One government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, pointed out that "none of these people would have been killed had the extremists obeyed the law and turned over their weapons voluntarily." Government troops initially succeeded in confiscating a large supply of outlawed weapons and ammunition. However, troops attempting to seize arms and ammunition in Lexington met with resistance from heavily-armed extremists who had been tipped off regarding the government's plans. During a tense standoff in Lexington 's town park, National Guard Colonel Francis Smith, commander of the government operation, ordered the armed group to surrender and return to their homes. The impasse was broken by a single shot, which was reportedly fired by one of the right-wing extremists. Eight civilians were killed in the ensuing exchange.

Ironically, the local citizenry blamed government forces rather than the extremists for the civilian deaths. Before order could be restored, armed citizens from surrounding areas had descended upon the guard units.

Colonel Smith, finding his forces over matched by the armed mob, ordered a retreat.

Governor Gage has called upon citizens to support the state/national joint task force in its effort to restore law and order. The governor also demanded the surrender of those responsible for planning and leading the attack against the government troops. Samuel Adams, Paul Revere, and John Hancock, who have been identified as "ringleaders" of the extremist faction, remain at large.

. . . And this, people, is how the American Revolution began .

AAarrgh. I really hate when someone takes actual history, and repaints it cartoonlike, using modern political BS to make it appear to tell a different story than actually occured, while at the same time claiming to justify modern misbehavior, in the name of appealing to traditional patriotism.

In short, this cut and paste claptrap is just that. None of it accurately describes the events in 1775. For one thing, there was no "ban on assault weapons." Even setting aside that "assault weapon" is a modern term, there was no ban of ANY kind involved with that particular situation.

Among a myriad of other falsehoods, exaggerations, and politicized nonsense.

Okay, you aren't going to support your own claims. Moving on.

The mess in Oregon, increasingly seems to be just the recent tip of a mess that was set in motion a VERY long time ago, by the earliest half-assed "solutions" that were put into place way back when this area first came to be a part of the US.

The early ranchers and farmers were using land that didn't belong to them, from the beginning. Rather than solving this problem completely at the time, by selling or awarding the land to the ranchers, or by requiring them to stop using land they didn't own, the political leaders of the time, set up this screwy system where people can use government lands for some things, not for others, as though it is theirs, while at the same time failing to write into the laws that the government had to continue to keep the land available to them at all times, and never change course about it.

Naturally, over time, both the politics and the needs of the overall ecology changed. Add in that people in lower-level positions of power are infamous for overstepping their authority and causing more problems in the name of following legal orders, and you get the kind of mess we have here.

There are claims and counter claims in the mess. The government reps claim that the ranchers broke the agreed upon rules, and the ranchers claim that the government purposely changed the rules, or how they were interpreted, in order to drive them out.

Ultimately at the bottom of it all, is a really stupid and over-complicated setup, which probably should never have been instituted.

It's my personal hope, though I'm not expecting it to happen, that someone in the Obama administration will wake up, and vacate the prison sentences on the ranchers, just to take some of the puff out if the situation. And Congress needs to step up, and pass a big reform bill, to actually FIX the problems of joint private/public use of the lands.

But I don't have much real hope for either, since neither Obama, nor the currently Republican-led Congress have shown any signs of trying to solve any problems. Just lots of posturing and political gamsemanship.

how does it solve problems setting a precedent that the way to get around the legal system is by armed occupation?
