how does it solve problems setting a precedent that the way to get around the legal system is by armed occupation?

I don't know what you are referring to with this. In case it's to what I said about an Obama pardon, that would have ZERO to do with the people occupying the federal building. They claim to be there on behalf of the ranchers, but the ranchers have stated firmly that they do NOT want their "help."

I see it's getting crazier, or sillier, depending how things go.

Now ANOTHER armed, self-appointed militant group has shown up, and declared that they are there to protect the Bundy group, and the Bundy group has amusingly said that they don't want THE NEW guys there.

If something really nasty doesn't happen, this is going to turn into a clown show. Wannabe Freedom Fighters against wannabe Freedom Fighters, with the rest of us (including the original Ranchers, who are NOT being helped by it all) looking on and scratching our heads in dismay.

It's a wonderful political protest.

No rioting.
No looting.

Just a few dumbasses barricaded in an otherwise abandoned building.

I've never been a fan of the bureau of livestock and mining.

No end in sight to Oregon militia standoff

BURNS, Ore. -- It's now been more than a week since a group of armed men took over a federal building in Oregon, triggering a standoff with law enforcement. And there's still no resolution in sight.

At a regular morning news conference Saturday, the group holding the wildlife refuge insisted they are here to stay.

"We came here to go to work and help people, and that's what we're going to do," LaVoy Finicum said.

Armed activists refuse to leave federal compound in Oregon
At a community meeting Friday night, residents agreed the federal government exercises too much control here.

"There's so many federal regulations that accrue to federal land," rancher Tim Smith said.

But still local residents have mixed feelings about the occupation. Just three miles from the refuge, rancher Tom Davis and his son Jake continue the hard work of raising cattle on the high desert.

"I think it's probably time for these guys to go home and I just pray that nothing will really happen to them," Tom David told CBS News.

"As long as they don't get violent, I think it's good coverage," his son added.

Good coverage, he says, for the challenges ranchers face across the West, where so much land is controlled by the federal government.

Armed militia takeover in Oregon
Nearly 53 percent of Oregon is federally owned. It's much the same across most Western states.

Ranchers who often depend on federal land for grazing need permits from the Bureau of Land Management, and complain the bureaucracy can be oppressive.

"All of a sudden the BLM, where it used to have just a few people to manage, now there's hundreds of people in there," Tom Davis said.

While the both the occupiers and local ranchers say they should take control of the land, the leader of the local Paiute Indians says history suggests another answer.

"We, as a tribe, view this is still our land, no matter who's living on it," Charlotte Rodrique said.

The conflict over who controls the West's wide open spaces seems as old as the West itself.

how can it have ZERO to do with the occupation when that's LITERALLY what the occupiers have alluded to?

even if the ranchers claim to not want their help , their statement that they wish to help, followed by a pardon, would set a precedent that this is how those who wish to help a convicted person(whether they want it or not) can get what they want

Awesome!
You figured out that I'm mocking the idiots hold up in the blm lands.

The misguided militia has a group chat on Facebook.
"constitutional bootcamp".

They're begging for snacks and food donations.

I'm encouraging literally everyone I know,
to go troll the f'k out of them.

So far, I see two issues with this occupation. The issues are functionally separate. One is the issue of the allege mistreatment of the ranchers, by the BLM. The other is the larger agenda of the two militant groups.

The crime of occupying the federal building, has nothing to do with the crimes that the ranchers have been charged or found guilty of (however unjustly that may be).

Investigating, and either pardoning, or otherwise alleviating or vacating the judgments against the ranchers, would NOT mean that the occupying militants would have been rewarded. In fact, if they are true to their claimed principles, they should all be prosecuted for the crimes that they have so openly committed, in order to gain the attention they desired. Just as law-breaking protesters have usually been required to do.

There is at this time, no reason to punish, or to withhold justice from the Ranchers, for the actions of the militants. If their situation is investigated and found to have been the result of governmental abuse of power, then correcting those abuses doesn't reward the militants. Especially if the militants are held accountable for their actions.

People here in Oregon, and especially in the area, are split about 50/50 on this.

Many are not ranchers or farmers. Some simply think the govt can do no wrong, others never knew the plight of the ranchers and back them but think the militia is a step too far, but many say it is what was needed to bring attention yet again to their plight because the courts don't work....or haven't so far... for the ranchers. Throw in some "guns" and you have the media and thereby the govt's attention.... and the peoples too!

One can only hope it is the proper message being received and not made about "armed anti govt invaders" as it's being promoted right now.... meaning the govt propagandized media is doing its best to create or change the narrative from "their abuses" and instead to blame the ranchers and militia as "bad people" or the T word.... as they did on the original 2 ranchers...tried them as "terrorists"!

This would not have been a story for public awareness without the militia showing up! Perhaps it will accomplish nothing. On the other hand.....? We'll see

Many Oregonians never knew the govt "controlled" over 1/2 the state they are paying taxes for.... while the FEDs and NOT the state were reaping the grazing and land use fees for as well!

But now they do......

Well said,

I HOPE Oregon realizes that many are supporting them & praying for them.

IMO: the only reason this situation/ standoff has latest this long is because more & more people are finding out the TRUTH.

Sure..there are still lots of people who view government as parents.
Mommy = will take care of you
Daddy = knows what is best.

Yea right..... waiting for those people to grow up.

seems FBI is playing Cat and Mouse, posing as Militia!
Feds must be planning another Mt.Carmel!
Apparently the Backlash wasn't enough !

According to a press release issued on Wednesday entitled “FBI Agents in Oregon posing as Militia,” Nevada Assemblywoman Michele Fiore states the following:

I just got off the phone with the former Fire Chief of Burns, Chris Briels, the Burns Fire Chief from 1984 to 2006. When he retired in 2006 the county asked him to stay on as the county Fire Marshall. According to the conversation I had with Chief Briels today at 12:26 p.m. Pacific time, he disclosed to me that the Sheriff’s office and Judge Grasty has been telling the community that the “militia” have been following and harassing people. Chief Briels observed what he thought was “militia” poking around the Armory and following townspeople so he took it upon himself to pull them over. According to Chief Briels these men posing as “militia” were the FBI. Chief Briels was so upset he has just resigned as the county Fire Marshall. He has gone public with this information.

Fiore belongs to an organization called the “The Coalition of Western States,” which according to the release, “represents over 50 legislators and grass roots leaders predominantly in the Western United States dedicated to stopping federal overreach.”..............

This isn't surprising. Posing as additional protesters has been a standard FBI tactic since forever. They aren't alone in this, either.

Back in the heady days of left wing protests in the 1970's, it reached the point where many people joked that if all the various people posing as protesters while spying on them, were to leave the movements involved, there wouldn't be anyone left.

It has only been really dismaying and surprising, in those cases where it was discovered that it was in fact the FBI spies, who were directing the group to commit various less than ideal acts.

Agent provocateurs have been inserted into groups by the FBI, unions,
and any other group of opposing powers to incite chaos, criminal acts, or actions to obtain an outcome or establish an agenda since forever.....

For once Igor and I can agree on something.

I'm sure all involved are aware but should anything "start" that level heads are controlling the outcome.

The govt's record on such things as "peaceful outcomes" is not so good tho......

I just wish more people would realize that EVERYONE (tribes, families, groups, agencies & departments, the state of Oregon, the country, news networks) wants something. Everyone has something to gain, loose or retain.
Even if that something is to 'save face" or " drama escalating "

Whatever the outcome.. This situation, & the point they are at...right now.. HAD to happen. To call attention to it all.
