Topic: Fake profiles

There appears to be more than a few fake profiles. I am guessing some type of scammers trying to get personal information. Lack of decent sounding english seems to be the easiest tip off.

Any suggestions in finding real people and avoiding the fakes?
Is there any valid reason why they would prefer to exchange emails to communicate rather than just send a few messages back and forth on here until comfortable with each other?

They like to email rather than message back and forth because they don't want direct contact if you know what I mean... they will very soon start talking about love etc to you, then when they think the time is right they will add the "I need money" angle.

Good luck..

There are a LOT of fakers out there! The English goes from acceptable (in a long, rambling profile) to "where did my scriptwriter go?" and a favourite one: "love conquers distance"

Anyone care to hazard a guess as to the ratio?
Real vs fakes?
40% real 60% fake?
65% real 35% fake???

Hi JoeDaytona, welcome to Mingle2

There are lots of scammers and fakeroos in all dating sites but, more so in free dating sites. We all get them... don't waste your time... ignore or block them... specially those who give out their personal emails.

One thing you can do is limit the people who can contact you by...

- go to your account settings
- click Limit Who Can Send You Mail
- set your mail filters in age and distance of members whom you would want to contact you.

Good luck in your search.

There are some that claim to work in the military but don't really. Also on the profile where it tells the place they live. They usually put something weird like dallas alabama or dallas dallas. Sometimes you can tell.

Get them to talk on the phone to see if they have an accent to where they say they are from or video Skype even though they can set up fake Skype video but not for long periods of time x
