The music we like to listen to tells a lot about the people we are. One can learn a lot about someone by checking out their music collection. Is it limited to a certain type of music or is it wide ranging? Do they like the same stuff as I? If I visit with them will there be stuff I will like too?
I have a wide range of music that I listen to for many different occasions. Here are some screen shots of some of it and a few selected videos available on youtube to give you a taste of what I like. With so much music available there is no way I am going to list it all. If you see something you like but haven't heard in a long time message me. Here is a screenshot of part of my collection. It is kinda hard to read but if you look at the scroll bar you can see there is lots more than shown.  Here is another screenshot taken from Artist view of my WMP. Years ago I went full digital with all my collections. I ripped my entire music library to my computer then gave away the cds.
Now, when I get a new cd I rip it and get rid of it. I have a full backup of my collection on a different harddrive and a zipped archive of the collection on still a different harddrive. Every year arounf Fed 1 I update my backups with the new music I got the previous year. I go thru it all and fix images, wording and mp3 tags info. I have song duplicates because I try to keep the albums intact. The only stuff I get from the internet is extended versions of albums, remasters or something new I heard from surfing youtube. |

Most of the "Regular People"(Pantera, song by the way) on Mingle2, know me as a Metalhead. I'll agree that I am for the most part. But I also listen to a wide variety of music.
From Classical, to Alternative, to growing up listening to The Four Aces, and Johnny Mathis. I still reminisce to those days on occasion. |

Everytime I play a song in my WMP it automatically gets "Scrobbled" to my Last.FM profile. http://www.last.fm/user/tomishereagain My listening history then allows Last.FM to recommend music to me using my listening habits and collection statistics. While I am backing up my music to archive I try to play all the new music I got that last year in entirety. It "scrobbles" those tracks to my history. In addition to Last.FM I use gnod Music Map http://www.music-map.com/ to find similar artists. It only gives the names but I use it in conjunction with Youtube to find new stuff I might like. On Youtube, if you do a search with certain keywords you can find both full albums and full concerts in one file. Perfect for mp3 players or long road trips with a car stereo that has a usb port. I have a 16Gb usb stick in my truck filled with audio books and music. "FULL Albums" "Full Concerts" "Full Audio Book" I also watch a lot of movies. Many times I hear a song during a movie that strikes my fancy. Sometimes I wait and read the credits then search it on youtube but there is a website that has a great selection of movie songs called Tunefind. http://www.tunefind.com/browse/movie It lists some TV shows as well. I once got a DVD as a gift called Animusic.
I found the music and animations mesmerizing. There are two DVDs released so far by Animusic but the 3rd is held up over health problems of its creator.   You can find both DVDs on Youtube as well as all the individual songs. What they did was create an algorithm that generates image movements to midi compositions. Its actually pretty cool to see. Plus the music is both intense and relaxing. Back in HS I got addicted to "Hair of the Dog" by Nazareth.
I bought the album and loved every song so much I started buying all that I found. I had no idea how versitle and talented these guys truly were until much later in life. In the States, Hair of the Dog came out including the song Love Hurts which was a major radio hit. It wasn't till many years later that I found out that in other countries it came with a song called Guilty. When I first joined the Navy I was stationed in Little Creek, VA near VA Beach, Virginia. I was at the mall checking out the record shop and came across a band named Shooting Star that I had never heard of before. So I bought Hang On For Your Life and it started a passion for their song that I still can't get enough of.
