Topic: The Capacity To Love Goes Against Nature

I think this is a perfect example of getting hung up on our impression of love by association and not a look at what love is.

If I play the part of an alien I will ask what is a monkey or a cow? I might also ask what is this thing you call bonding? As an alien perhaps I am bonded with everything at some level unknown to humans. Thus, bonding may seem disassociated from your unique concept of giving in a Universe that I know of as taking.

All the species I am familiar with, my fellow aliens, are social in nature because we share our resources and take care of each other to promote our species survival. This Love thing that you humans have gives you the ability to act outside the taking nature of the Universe to give of yourself with no capture of benefit. [End perspective...]

As I suggested earlier the entire Universe is a process of consumption in some way shape or form, with perhaps the exception of quantum entanglement.
I haven't given it a lot of thought yet but, at first thought, it seems that spooky entanglement and quantum nature is a natural act of giving as the quantum state gives itself to the detection particle.

If this is correct then what we think of as Love may not be Love at all.
If Time is a series of quantum realizations and those quantum realizations are natural giving, it could be said that we exist in a fluctuating state of Love. Again, I must stress that I have not given this much thought yet.

My original idea is how do you explain Love to a being that has never known of Love and has no similar associations?
If you could, what would be the ramifications of that revelation?

From particles to galactic superclusters I see the Universe as taking. An entrophic process of consumption leading to the eventual decay of the Universe. I see Love as giving. A extrophic process in an entrophic Universe. Its a lop-sided nature with entropy far out-weighing extropy.
Even extrophic processes like cell growth is a process of natural taking.
The cell takes nutrients and energy to a point at which it divides and then each division does it again and again and again.

When I think of Love I think of Giving. It is how I express my love for others. Humans have a knack for assuming that our values are universal.
An alien may not know what wealth or power is. It may not understand the concepts of jealousy or love. It may only understand taking and using. There are people right here on this planet with us that are like that right now.

I think love is a human thing, caring runs across all species.
They care for their young and groups.
Probably evolved for us when some random cave man decided he liked bonking
not just for reproduction then it all went wrong from there laugh

People vary in their capacity for experiencing and expressing love. Those individuals difference in the ability to give love are deeply rooted in our personality structure and therefore are greatly influenced by our upbringing.
In anthropology, romantic love has always been around .its just the matter of fact that time consumption and economic standard to create more opportunities for dalliance...

Had to look up the word dilliance, cool word use!

So, how would you explain love to an alien that has evolved out of physical reproduction or never coupled to reproduce in the first place?

You don't need the vast Universe to find reproduction without coupling, it happens right here on Earth all the time. Look at fish as one example.
Plus there is technology that could lead humans to no longer couple to reproduce and a limited form of it has already begun with artificial insemination.

If we ever reach a point in our evolutionary technological future where we no longer have sex to reproduce will love still exist? I think it will.

Can a child reared from birth in a mechanical environment devoid of parental love express love? Perhaps that is an experiment someone will do one day. I think it would be morally wrong to the child but it could happen.

We know that disabled people can express and receive love.
Blind, disfigured, deaf or dumb and even mentally challenged people experience love all the time. This indicates that love is not dependant on the senses or the body.

We know that people of all backgrounds can experience love. So love is not dependant on experience, wisdom or intelligence.

Is love a form of personal association? Well, I know people personally and do not feel love for them and I feel love towards some people I have no knowledge of personally.

To explain to that alien what love is can only be done if we know ourselves. To me love is the giving in a taking Universe.

If I love my dog and give him a steak he takes it and is happy. He doesn't feel my love he feels food in his mouth and it tastes good. When he is done with it he will come back for more. If I continue to give, he will continue to take until he is full. Then he will go lie down and digest his food. If he kills a rabbit and brings it to us so we can eat and we reject it. We have not accepted his love, his gift to us.

He understands the giving part in a taking Universe but he may not associate it with love like we do but its still an act of love. We may not accept that raw rabbit from him but it is still an act of giving in a taking universe. We may not even see his gift as an act of love and he may not know his act of giving is an act of love. He does understand giving in a taking Universe tho.
Will a tuna fish you fed bring you a lobster?

I suppose it's all in one's perception as far as giving well nature gives us a lot of things such as air to breathe, cool breezes on a hot summer's day, clouds that look like marshmallows, land that we can walk on and water in which to swim and many more things from nature we are provided with..Now don'tcha feel the LOVE...spock

Nature didn't give us those things?
Those things exist whether we are here to appreciate them or not and are products of the consumption forces that made this planet.

Well, I thought about quantum entanglement. Which lead me to think about the recent article I saw concerning quantum teleportation. This made me recall a story I read by Terry Bisson called "Meat".
You can read the short story here:
http://www.terrybisson.com/page6/page6.html
http://www.terrybisson.com/page6/page6.html

Now I have a new twist to my story....

After humans tried to explain Love and giving to the far superior aliens that live in a purely taking Universe. The aliens ate the humans and figured out where they came from.
They quantum jumped back to our home planet and ate all the humans there as well.
Afterward, They got on their Universe cell phones and called all their alien buddies and told them about the weird loving humans they met that were very giving and they were juicy and chewy and had wonderful crunchy parts.

If you think that could never happen just remember that right now there are space probes traveling into interstellar space with our home address and a dinner menu on them. Eat 'N' Park Earth is already advertising for business.

Now I have a new story on my mind. Its another meeting aliens story but has to do with perceptions in general. It involves how we humans perceive our environment based on our senses and what we think we know compared to how an advanced alien species might perceive similar things.

It tries to remove our common illusions in favor of a look at how things could appear to a species without those common associations.

So now that I finally get to where I am able to see this from the authors perception and what "he" is asking, rather than my perception of what he is asking, you switch gears, lol. Well, that's okay, you are the author and get to do that.

The short story, "Meat" is interesting. A little mind boggling, but it's a good example of what we perceive something to be isn't necessarily what others perceive it to be.

Okay, switching my mind to your new story idea, and relating it the the short story, I see how trying to explain our concept of something to another, in this case, the aliens who have no association with that concept, can have catastrophic effects.

So the far superior aliens who live in a purely taking Universe might perceive our explanation of love as meaning we are offering ourselves for their consumption? By telling them love is giving of ourselves, they perceive that to mean literally?

Am I getting closer to where you're going with this?

LOL, yes.

My creativity is random and fluctuating. I often go off on unexpected tangents as I lose interest in one thing and find curiosity in another.
Perhaps that is why I have so much trouble staying focused on a story long enough to write anything more than a short fiction or flash fiction.

I suspect I have a whole series of books in me but I don't know how to link all the different things into a coherent composition. I find that interesting in itself. I would love to read Encyclopedia Universe. LOL, even tried to write one once but got distracted.

Here is my lame attempt (Just for fun)
May 18, 2073
Steven Wayne Mills, using the Canyon Quantum Supercomputer, discovers the photon signal from our nearest galactic repeater. A mere 28.8 light years from Earth and it is believed to be the size of a large marble. It pulses the signal at 2 billion hydrogen electron shifts and is stable.

The God Photon, as it has been deemed, contains quadrillions of information packets which changes with each pulse. Sometimes packets enlarge, sometimes new packets emerge but it grows geometrically. CQS is tasked to isolate a single packet and extract the data. With the whole planet's data storage at it's disposal it is only able to store the first section of one packet. This section is now called School because it is the instruction data that is used to unlock the contents of the packet.

School is sent to the Deep Water Data Supercomputers in the Indian Ocean and is slowly understood. DWDS has determined that the language of the Universe is not mathematics after all. It is a language of emotions and experiences. Each symbol in the alphabet represents an emotional state, a specific experience or is used as a combiner. This Master Alphabet is more than 16 trillion characters and still growing. It is hypothesized that a single word in this encyclopedia could represent a whole lifetime of observation, feelings and tasks. A single sentence might contain all the history of the rise and fall of a nation. A single paragraph that might encompass the lifetime of a whole planet.

We learn from School that the Universe is saturated with repeaters and beacons. Beacons are used to gather up the ever changing conditions in it's range of influence and that data is updated and pulsed on a single photon. This Encyclopedia Universe is actually a repository of the whole Universe that is updated in real-time from a human perspective. As of this moment we can only read the most basic information. There is, however, a sub-module that has been discovered that hints at Reading Requirements but at our present limited computing ability we are unable to decipher the building requirements of the Reader.

What we do know, using the most basic information gained, is very little. There are still elements we can not decipher and a billion or so simple characters that are still to be identified. Not that we are fumbling about. We have identified that there is not a single species responsible for its creation but that it has been operating for around 8 billion years and is a collection of information condensed by every civilization that has been Schooled. In addition there is an artificial element that monitors the real-time changes in a sphere of influence that adds information as well. We also know that photons are faceted and each facet contains a separate set of packets dealing with specific boundaries we think of as galactic super-clusters.

...to be continued

December 28, 2106

Mark Rheyas Smith and his personal AI: Veebus accurately map the School alphabet onto High Density Reader Film (HDRF). At 2130zulu school001.0hdrf is mainstreamed to the planetary AI. Two hours later planet Earth transmits its first information pulse confirming our understanding of School's alphabet sequence.
Immediately the photon signals from all surrounding Repeaters is modified. The sequenced alphabet is returned with an additional sequence that is different. It is determined that the second, modified sequence is a correction of mistakes in our transmission. There is also a new 'letter' included that contains a mixture of all the written languages of Earth.
Using the 'Earth' symbol dynamics, it is discovered that this symbol converts the Schooling Alphabet to our planet's language. It is discovered that the Reader is not a mechanical device nor an organic appendage. It is an Axion based modification to the surface area of the brain's dendrites. In essence, the Reader is you. Any being with a firing synapse is capable of being fitted with a Reader. AI and mechanical intelligence is not.
The ramifications of creating a Reader immediately sent shock waves thru our planetary society. AI and humans had mixed reactions but for different reasons. Even tho the science is not yet developed to construct a Reader, the impact that such a thing could exist sends society into turmoil. From what School is implying, once the reader is applied to one being it cascades to all life on the planet. Sort of like a plague. The planetary AI, Erdee, initiates a campaign to find a cure for the Reader before it can occur. As Erdee locks out people from School data, people begin unplugging from Erdee. Individual computing systems start capturing and mining the School modules on HDRF. Scientists begin to experiment with genetic coding and radiation frequencies.
A chimpanzee, Frank, has been chosen as the first life form to receive the Reader. Frank is isolated in a subterranean vault and the reader is pulsed into his optic nerve. Frank immediately passes out.
After 6 hours a team in hazard suits is sent into Frank's chamber to determine his condition first hand. The team is equipped for brain surgery just in case. As soon as the team breaks the seal and begins to enter Frank's chamber, Frank sits up and immediately says "There is no danger." The team passes out. Alarms blare and doors shut and lock. Frank laughs and rubs his hairy chin. "Humans".
Six months of intense scrutiny of the 11 occupants of the 'Cell' reveal no detrimental physical or mental conditions. Of the 11 subjects, none have offered any insight as to the nature of the condition. They are not smarter or different in any way except their eyes have a distinct glow in darkness. In light the glow is indefinable.
Months turn into years and years pass into decades. Kept alive and in good health by an army of robotic servitors the "Eleven" show no signs of any detrimental effects of the exposure. Frank grows into a sentient and rather likeable 'guy'. He demonstrates all the social skills of a human being but has little quirks that are determined to be species unique. While he can eat meat he prefers fruits and vegetables. He still holds an aversion to open flames but can work with controlled fire. Frank passes after 22 years and his body is moved to a different chamber and is robotically autopsied. Aside from the blueish tint of his optical nerves and related brain areas there is no physical changes or contaminates to be found. As a precaution, Frank's body is cremated and compressed. The resulting pellet is then sealed into a tomb.
The remaining 'Ten' infected continue in isolation with nothing more than robotic visitors and holographic projections as company. As they slowly succumb to the ravages of time, one by one they are added to the 'Tomb'. No new information has been gleaned for a very long time. They possess no new knowledge of School, the Reader or the Encyclopedia.

LOL, That's as far as I got...

Wow, I can see how writing about all that would cause your mind to get distracted thinking about other things as well. You clearly have a scientific train of thought. My thought process is more psychological and metaphysical type of philosophy.

I probably have enough for a few books as well, but get distracted too, so have a lot of unfinished writings. I lose focus if I get interrupted or when I walk away from it, I sometimes have a hard time getting back to the same train of thought.

Isn't it neat how people often have different approaches to our understanding of existence?

Perhaps I need a bit more psychological and metaphysical type thinking to complete my inspirations?

That now has me thinking of how unrealized limitations might be learned about, considered and implemented to open a new understanding of our own passions.

Thanx, This will occupy my mind for awhile and I may even figure out a way to put my revelations into a story about aliens - LOL.

LOL, You're welcome, and thank you! Opening my mind to the scientific approach might be the very thing I need for a more enlightened understanding.

When you take the concept of Trinity...mind, body, spirit...all three are needed for wholeness.

And yes, I thing it's very neat how people have different approaches to understanding.

Trinity...mind, body, spirit

Yup, but I call it...

Body = The physical world around us
Mind = Our reasoning capacity
Spirit = Our emotional maturity

Its like the figure 8 of infinity which initiates crosses and loops to cross back and loop again. One affecting the next which affects the next in a continuous cycle.

Understanding only one or two isolated components of that paradigm breaks the cycle harmony.

Edit to insert a little "o" into the word lops to make it loops. It wasn't an intentional ommission but it did make the sentance read funny. Scratch the head funny, not laughing so hard your drink flies out your nose funny.

I am trying to figure out what your actual question is,
From reproduction perspective, we human modify through sexual reproduction. The offspring carries each set of parents chromosomes and become unique individual.
.....come back later..

I was not describing "lust". But the urge to reproduce. Two Bull elephants, or Bison, do battle with each other to win the female, to mate with. Some fight to the death, for what? Love? Love is a human concept. Love is a chemical reaction. Love can be induced, by certain chemicals or drugs. MDMA, or commonly called " ecstasy" was originally used in couples therapy to induce "Love", and empathy. You can by increasing the amount of testosterone, in either the Male, or the Female, to increase the sex drive. Sex forms a bonding in a relationship, especially the male. The urge to reproduce, is independent to Love. But it is the more powerful drive in the World. The raising of the offspring that results from the coupling, is mainly the responsibility of the female. Elephants, for example, while the male then roams around searching for more females. Love is many things to many people. It must be nice to have the time to go over what I say, line by line, by line, by line.

So, how would you explain love to an alien that has evolved out of physical reproduction or never coupled to reproduce in the first place?

"You know, it's sort of like how you guys don't eat each other and end up with only one of you ..." ?
