Our views on race and discrimination , or our choice of political party?

http://www.yahoo.com/style/m/0a012582-e75f-349c-924e-d4128bf2ba38/ss_new-study-shows-that-your.html

A new survey by the Public Religion Research Institute reveals a lot about America. We live in a world where racial discrimination exists. This should not be a controversial statement. But when a certain world leader-slash-real estate magnate inspires such blind dedication from a large segment of the population even while calling Mexicans rapists and trying to institute a Muslim travel ban and cuddling up to white supremacists, it makes it clear that not everyone agrees. A new study from the Public Religion Research Institute explores this question. The study surveyed a massive 40,000 person sample about their views on discrimination in America. The results?

Wow, LOL

Religions are the biggest bigots of all. Their discrimination is not limited to nationality or race it saturates all people. It is sickening to look at the history of religious bigotry. Violence, hatred, murder and wars.

Its the pot calling the kettle black.

Thats an interesting concept. comparing bigotry in terms of 'biggest' or not,,,

hmmm

I would think consistency makes something less a form of bigoted discrimination and more like a form of logical discernment.

bigotry is aimed at groups regardless of their individual behavior, discernment is aimed at individual behaviors(Regardless of groups)

There is also a study out there that show babies are born racist. So it must be a natural defence to keep is safe from those who are different. Maybe we should stop having babies so we can break the cycle. We also need to look at "stereotypes"and figure out which ones are justified, and which ones are a way to cut others down. And yes, Religions are very guilt of putting their views on others and going to war with those who do not fallow their ways.

I do think religion enhances it tho at the same time as portraying it to be the one that will save you from it!

I was born and raised Christian and have never even thrown a punch. It is a stereotype. People can say lack of is the problem. The individual is the problem

Religion is a cult that brainwashes people and their goal is to spread their word and get more fallowers to help spread there word. So sorry yellowrose you do belong to a cult and you have brainwashed. Not to say everything about religion is bad, there are many good aspects. But since the beginning of time there has been wars caused by what people believe. Religion is not just a magical thing that appeared, it is something that people have made up over time in an effort to control people. Everyone looks different and thinks different and people have a hard time accepting some peoples actions or way of life and that is racism. Many religions still treat women as property, this is there "normal" so to them it is acceptable, while our spiders may see it as being unfair. So you have to decide if its about what you believe women's rights should be, or your view on everyone being allowed to fallow their own beliefs.

how can a baby be 'born' racist? what quack study was that? racism is learned because the concept of race is learned,,

people are guilty of putting their views on others and going to war with those who do not follow their ways,

so happens that religions are made up of people too and end up being scapegoated for a very human and common shortcoming

people demonize 'cult' and 'religion' because they confuse people seeking out answers and congregating with others on the same paths or with the same interests/values/goals with people being 'brainwashed'

education is a form of such 'brainwashing', so is culture, so is nationality, so is anything that involves people gathering around common interests/beliefs/values or people choosing to share their interests/beliefs/values

I have not been 'brainwashed'. I am a christian and I believe through logical assessment of the correlation between what I experience and what I have read

just like I believe ANYTHING I have ever read in ANY book, by how consistently it aligns with my EXPERIENCE,,,,

I believe in a right and wrong, and I believe everyone should have the 'right' to believe in a right and wrong and not have to agree on what it is,,

But I believe that others can be incorrect in what they believe, whether they have the right to believe in it or not,,,

In the end having any form of government can do the same thing as a religious group. One is more easily corrupted than the other. Do you think hitler was just a religious fanatic? He literally used the governments rules to twist to his will. Religion and governments have very heavily bloodied hands. To put faith in one or the other is like handing your life over to someone who wants to use you to further their agenda. If you just focus on how you want your life to go then what does it matter. Don't stick with a side choose something that helps your life progress.

I'm not real clear on what you are asking here, msharmony. The link in your opening post doesn't work, so I can't see the article that inspired you.

Are you asking if people choose political party allegiances based on concerns about racism?

If so, in my case the answer would be no, with a particular explanation. Mainly, I've given up on giving any allegiance to a political party, because I haven't found one that didn't anger me at them, just as much as they pleased me.

You did mention that the GOP under Trump, has some rather unpleasant ties to some very crudely racist people, and I agree with that. But I find their behavior as a party vastly worse, than if they were just straight up racist. They are actively and carefully hedging their bets. That's much worse, in my book, because it provides support to racists, while refusing all responsibility for doing so, and worse, refusing to even admit that racism causes problems.

I don't agree with the people blaming all religions for animosities. Not because I'm religious, I'm not. I disagree, because most religions primarily seek to bind people together, at their core. It's mainly the followers who decide to play "I'm holy and you're not" games.

Oh, and I did see another thread in another forum about that alleged "study" declaring that racism is biological, or in some other way inherent to being human. I think it was based around interpreting the fact that babies rapidly learn to tell the difference between people by way of their obvious appearance characteristics, and then leaping across chasms of nonsense, to conclude that therefore babies decide their parents race is "good," or some such. It was a very ineptly thought out "study."

Yahoo news?
Clickbait central.

A new survey by the Public Religion Research Institute reveals a lot about America

Probably does.
Unfortunately "news" organizations are going to interpret the data according to the bias they want to impose on their readers.

We live in a world where racial discrimination exists.

IMO we live in a world where people conflate racism and cultural conflict and supremacism.
There's a difference between dividing people by race, identifying racially specific attributes, then using those to prove "inferiority," and using race to identify undesired cultural attributes or avoid cultural change.
e.g. difference between "black people get sickle cell anemia at a higher rate, their genes are inferior, less evolved against disease, I don't want them dating my daughter and getting her pregnant with a devolved child," vs., "I don't want black people in my neighborhood with their rap and gangs and baggy pants, I don't want them dating my daughter and teaching her to talk like eminem snoop dog."

IMO the former is "racist," the latter is cultural protectionism, they happen to use "racial" identifiers as a representation of a culture, but IMO it isn't "racist."

IMO there is a difference between believing ones race (racial attributes) is superior and believing ones culture is superior.
IMO one makes you a racist, the other makes you a supremacist.

IMO those are different arguments.

IMO we live in a world of people/groups/governments constantly vying for supremacy, especially cultural supremacy. Gender based, religion based, economy based, legal based, lifestyle based, entertainment (e.g football at universities) based, intelligence based, whatever.

The results?

Probably highly disparate as they more than likely asked horrible questions regarding belief's rather than actual verifiable experience.
"Do you believe LGBTQ people face discrimination? How much do you believe they face?"
vs.
"Have you experienced/participated in any LGBTQ discrimination in the last 6 mo's? Year? 5 years?"

One is determining the effectiveness of media indoctrination, the other is asking for potentially useful and meaningful information.
