I believe that everyone in America has the right to free speech, you do not have to agree with them but they have the right to say what they stand for. What I do not believe is that people have the right to state these views to other people who have not " tuned in" to hear them These football players are at work. They get paid to play football. They have no right to use their work environment stage as their personal platform to spread their personal views to millions of people who did not ask for their personal views. If most of us were to go into work an start making personal crusades upon people who have not asked for them. chances are we would be fired. You want to protest.. you want to take a knee, be my guest, it is your right to do so, but do it on your own time and don't shove it down peoples throats. I would agree with all of that except that know of no employer or any job which has the RIGHT to FORCE anyone to participate in symbolic gestures of patriotism. It's not really a 'part' of any American job, for the reason that Americans are not forced or dictated to on how they HAVE to show their patriotism. Some do it by action, some do it by peaceful protest, some do it by volunteering, but no JOB included a mandate on how any person must do it or when. I also think there are just as many who don't tune in to watch such displays of patriotism either. It being part of the job, is highly debatable. The job is to play football. Full stop. If the so called symbolic gesture of patriotism was new to sports then I would agree with you, but its not. been there since the beginning. It was in place when they accepted the job and in fact they seemed to have no problem with it prior to very recently. If you don't want to stand for the flag.. fine, stay off the field and don't disrupt others with your self centered views. My point was I feel it wrong to use your employers time and a platform that you do not rent or own to force your views down the throat of others people which they are certainly doing If you would read a few posts up, it has actually NOT been there 'since the beginning' it was a tradition beginning to garner support for the WAR. It was in place that it happens, and it was also in place that they did not have to participate WHEN they 'accepted the job'. People with short attention spans feel 'disrupted' by a few people kneeling quietly, they probably arent true sports fans, or those who can take a hit and get up and keep going without whinging about it. I understand you feel its wrong to use 'employers time' to force your views, and I feel its wrong to use 'employees time' to force your patriotism. And I know of no job where it is legal to do so, except maybe the one where they are LITERALLY paid for their patriotism,, the military. |

Ya'll in the states are a proud bunch, many times that pride in country is misplaced with some stoopid war bravado and sometimes it's showing your pride in country before a big game promoting sportsmanship and unity amongst players, owners, fans and the league. stand straight laddy! Yes allegiance to customs often consumes us in our logic and judgment. Do you have a better way to promote unity before the players rip each others heads off in a game?  Yes. A moment of reflection for people they have lost. Or a moment of honor specifically TO THEIR TEAMS or a moment where they stand UNIFIED in supporting each others diversity, including diverse political stances. Or all of them could hold hands and sing Kum Ba Yah.. maybe plant a few tree saplings. |

Sheep follow a shepherd, but some shepherds are teaching what is worthy of following, as a Christian, I can think of one amazing 'shepherd' whose example and lesson I can only hope to follow. Sometimes a 'shepherd' can be a teacher, or an elder, who is sharing valuable knowledge for others to use and act upon.  recently I read a story about someone facing backlash for standing for the President. I think whinging over people kneeling or standing is equally preposterous and shows how whacked out our values and priorities are. But, I applaud those who take personal risks to shed light on real issues. |

ok. I meant quietly as in making no noise. I don't whinge about quiet and unoffensive actions personally. Kneeling, to me, is no more offensive than standing as an action in itself.
and is your concern the number of my posts or my answering 'my own' questions? please be a bit more clear,,,
