As far as figuring out how far whatever one you're in has gone, I guess that would be something you discover in the event that various things happen. Such as, you might have what you think of as a very close friend, and then one day, your car breaks down in the wilds, and you call them for rescue. Do they drop what they are doing and come? Do they tell you what to do to rescue yourself, and then wait? Do they say "wow, that's a bummer, I'll pray for you!" and then hang up?

Or you tell them you care about them a lot. Do they wince? Do they say they care too, but say it reticently? Do they continue to communicate as before, or do they back off?

All sorts of things can be indicators.

as far as i know, he tells me he likes me, he communicates, he sends pictures, he updates me from time to time, but there are months we dont talk regularly, and the hardest part is we never saw each other in person

He might be serious.. he might like you but after some time he will leave you because he knew that you are far.. he can't meet you for some reason... (saw that from other friends several times... that's the reality of dating sites.. you are meeting people from far places.. they come and go)

Or it can be the other way around, he might not be serious.. he might be chatting with many.. maybe he's telling what he's telling you to other girls too.. sweet words are easy to say here and even in video, you won't know if he's serious
