By better educated, you mean the ones electing candidates based on abolishing ice and Medicaid for all? :joy:

I mean the ones who have put in time and financial investment to learn things like math, language, reading, writing, science, history, civics ... et cetera.

again, back to only how it 'seems'

it 'seems' northerners try to appear educated in lieu of manners, and southerners try to appear mannerable in lieu of education.

So northerners have no manners and southerners lack education.. and I see where another poster labels southerners as " red necks"

No.. no bigotry going on here.. none at all..........

well, thank God we have the west because it would appear both the north and south... suck

I'm moving to the Mason / Dixon line.. right on the line.. that way I don't suck.

As East has demonstrated how race is still a obsessive "issue" to some backwards southerners even in unrelated topics. The south loves to judge books by their cover and may be why they are seen as "uneducated."

The South is looked at as having good manners. This might be true in small towns. It's not the case in the concrete jungle. A man was killed today while driving on Martian Luther king Blvd. Nobody know why but he probably cut someone off. It isn't unusually for people to kill someone over a parking spot here. Things are definitely changing in the south. Not all of it is for the best.

Northerners are mean spirited, Southerners are judgemental but the West is cooler than a fan.

Well folks, it appears it is " BACK TO WAR!!"

So lets just slap each other in the face with a handkerchief., dust off the Yankee / Confederate uniforms and get to it.

You southerners can use horses if you want, us northerners are using golf carts... o.k. ?

How much is your rent every month? This is coming from an uneducated southerner. The home I live in is paid for. My estimated tax bill is $841.89.

I've read a lot of those articles. It's b.s.

projection is not our friend ...

topic: north and south ....

I wouldn't answer the question if I were you either. We aren't as uneducated as you want to claim it appears. We aren't focused on the civil war and trying to live in the past. We just aren't going to rewrite history.

Firstly, I dont answer the question HERE, I discussed it where it was relevant though. It is not required that any thread participant answer busy body nosy personal questions from other thread participants, ESPECIALLY when they are OFF TOPIC.

Secondly, there is a thing called reading comprehension which is falling short in this thread. There are no absolutes. There were responses in this thread about southerners and their manners, but I can tell you about southerners who are complete Buttholes. that is because the observations regarding north and south are GENERALIZING characteristics and not talking about EVERY person in either region. My observations are not personally aimed at any post participant and not even every northerner or southerner which is why I am constantly using words like SEEMS and APPEARS.

I Am aware southerners can be rude and polite, just as Im aware northerners can be educated or not. The thread is about a GENERAL perception of north and south and how they 'think', which of course no one can know or prove.

redneck is not a race, first of all.
second, I see NO MENTION of it in this thread, just like there is still only one person constantly talking about 'statues'.

third, there is bigotry in this thread, do a control F and see how many times you find 'blacks' here and how many times you see mention of ANY other race.

and lastly, no person and no region of our country is perfect. This thread is about the general observation about the 'thinking' of North and South. I did not imply that anyone 'sucks'. Education is good. manners are good. My posts imply what the priority seems to be in north verse south.

Redneck is a term that was given to white farmers. Don't play dumb and pretend it wasn't a racial slur.

Since all the south cares about is manners, "Y'all have a nice day now...ya here!".

I guess I should stop posting and go find me a rotary phone in case some of the church ladies want to get together for tea.

You would think some of these backward posters would have noticed we aren't as kind as the stereotype or as dumb. Maybe they just don't have examples of manners or traditions. Since they are the ones who claim it's true.

for fudge sake, is reading comprehension really THIS HARD?

look up definition of 'SEEMS' and 'APPEARS' people, the thread was not about any of the specific people posting here or about EVERYONE in any region

move on already and back on topic ... PLEASE

If you feel like "blacks" are interrupting the display of whatever off topic flag you speak of why not move to a less diverse nation such as Russia? Miss East. Last time I checked in America regardless of region you are allowed to fly whatever flag you want in or on your home. You are just race baiting.

You see no mention of the phase Red Neck?

And you generalize the north based on you living in the north? Based on your time here? dealing with the population here, the different lifestyle here, the different cultures, the different challenges not found in the south?

How long did you live in the north? and where?

How do you come up with a blanket assumption on over 62 million people? How can any person make a general blanket statement on people living in a certain area when they themselves have not lived that life? Not walked in those shoes.

I can not say southerners are this or that. I have not lived in the south. I do not know the southern " way", therefore I could not give a educated opinion on southerners in general... can I.

I will say this, I have been to most every state and rude and mean does not know state lines

any question in politics calls for answers that are highly generalized, im really not sure why some seem to be taking this one apart and responding so defensively about it.

I happen to like the south, I have a 2nd home there. I like the laid back atmosphere and I like the country. But being born and raised in NYC and living here in the greater NYC area, I understand it. You are raised in it.. adapt to it And I think that is at the heart of the issue. Some who never lived this life do not understand it and what is perceived as attitude. I takes a different mentality here.

My daughter in law is from N.C wonderful young woman. She never left N.C. the first time she was here, my son took her into the city for a day trip. 2 hours later they were back.. she was .. petrified.. by "the city" and he had to take her back home. something that we are accustom to. It would be the same as when I was in Fl. some locals wanted to take me snake hunting.. routine to them.. scared the hell out of me.. I didn't go. They didn't really understand why I didn't want to do it and I didn't understand why they wanted to do it.

But judge a entire population.. nah.

Snake hunting is a hobby. Southerners judge u in prejudice ways based on religion, definitely race and nationality much more so than other regions I have lived in. It may be due to the south having stronger religious beliefs?

try to read for understanding instead of argument. I have given reasons and stayed on topic. It could be a nice discussion without the petty personal nonsense.
