I actually liked him, besides the usual powerful disrespect for marriage in his distant past, he seemed to try to live by a standard of decency

Sen. John McCain has decided to discontinue medical treatment in his battle with brain cancer, his family said in a statement Friday. The Arizona Republican senator's family said McCain has "surpassed expectations for survival," but the "progress of disease and the inexorable advance of age render their verdict." McCain, 81, was diagnosed with glioblastoma more than a year ago.

"Last summer, Senator John McCain shared with Americans the news our family already knew: he had been diagnosed with an aggressive glioblastoma, and the prognosis was serious," McCain's family said in a statement. "In the year since, John has surpassed expectations for his survival."

Agree with his views or not ( and I don't) John McCain is a patriot and a class act. That cannot be denied.

If any has been around those that have died from Brain Cancer of any kind would understand why he has choose the route to stop treatment...

Myself 3 family members have suffered from it and watched two of them whittle away after surgery and treatments. Once that started their lives pretty much ended due to all the meds and being so weak they could not do much...

Prayers to him, his family and friends for what is ahead..

Myself I could careless about his views he has enough to think about in spending his time with family...

TxsGal, I agree. Knowing brain cancer survivors, they have told me about the treatments, and holy smokes....

McCain also has against him his age, and a body abused by the Vietnamese while he was in the Hanoi Hilton.... It has to be a doubly tough fight.

The man is an American Patriot. I have disagreed with his policies and positions in the past, but I wish we had more politicians of his stature today

Well he's dead now, not sure if that is what your prayers were for? But probably better off to be out of misery. As with most senator's I don't really agree with a lot of things they do, and his running mate for President was a big disgrace. As Donald says I prefer my hero's not to be captured. He was doomed until they found out his dad ranked high in the military, he broke down and gave up info before he was finally released. I do believe he had a lot of good intentions however I also believe we should start limiting politicians to two terms as they often become part of the problem instead of the solution as they develop Washington's way of life. Long story short it don't matter to me if he's dead or alive.

This is the problem, a dodger (fake bone spurs, but the spurs didn't keep him from playing tennis) criticizing a hero who served his country, someone who risked his life in uniform and endured documented TORTURE in the Hanoi Hilton... I mean, Donnie gave up US Intel freely WITHOUT being tortured. (documented, to Israel, and to Russia)

And yet, you back this guy? Not for nothing, but do you see the HYPOCRACY of what Donnie said about McCain?

Holy smokes

"He was doomed until they found out his dad ranked high in the military, he broke down and gave up info before he was finally released". What is that supposed to mean? As a matter of fact he was doomed once they found out his father was an Admiral, and tortured him all the more because of it. He refused any priority at all. Please get your facts straight.

If you will recall from that time, McCain and Stockdale organized the POWs who were being interviewed by TV journalists (after being cleaned up and given clean POW uniforms, etc) to blink in Morse code "T-O-R-T-U-R-E" so the viewers would know that they were being coerced

I will never forget when he was running for President and during a question / Answer session at one of his rallies, A woman started to disrespect President Obama and without hesitation McCain took the mike from her and said " no mame, you are wrong President Obama is a good man, a good father & a good husband.

Just a stand up class act.

Yes indeed! he was a truer patriot than most:

"WHEN John McCain was dragged in front of his Vietnamese captors to be released, he knew they were only letting him go because of his high ranking father.

The decision he made to remain a prisoner with his fellow Americans almost cost him his life - but turned him into a cult hero in his home country."

http://www.thesun.co.uk/news/7103291/john-mccain-vietnam-torture-hanoi/

"But almost as soon as he gasped for air he was mobbed by Vietnamese soldiers who pulled him ashore and viciously attacked.

He suffered a shattered shoulder as he was hit with a rifle butt and was bayoneted in the stomach and foot.

For the next five and half years McCain endured brutal torture as a prisoner of war in a story of bravery that would come to define the US senator's legacy and earn him international fame."

Meanwhile Trump had bone spurs.

What does this thread have to do with Trump? The man died. Can't it just be about his life and service ..and to honor him?

Can't one thread not include Trump?.
