I know everyone has heard that opposites attract, but I'm wondering if anyone has been in a relationship with someone they felt was their complete opposite and how it turned out.

Just Curious

Thanks

depends on the opposites... When they conflict with moral standards i would say no, however on the flipside, opposites can build on one another.

Yes they do attract and no they don't last 'forever' my wife is my polar opposite we have been together for 7 years married for 4 but we are separating now her main reason 'we have nothing in common' so hopefully that answers your question

I think for the most part they only last short term.

I would say that the majority of relationships like that turn out to be short flings but some of them do work out

Like kalamazoo said, it depends, in some things it's probably better to be opposite and in some things it's probably better to be similar.

Examples
A dominant personality and submissive personality works well together.
A person who's a bit wild and someone pragmatic, the wild one lends passion to the other and the pragmatic one keeps the other grounded.

That's awsome,
But in order for it to work out for that long i'm sure their was a lot of hard work involved. Unfortunatly people don't hold the same views on marriage that they did 50 years ago. 50 years ago marriage was a sacred thing and to be worked on at all costs....not so today. But i'm glad it has worked out for them

Her - extrovert - Him - introvert

Her - passionate - Him - apathetic

Her - creative - Him - logical

Her - tenacious - Him - Sporadic

Did it work? Do they appear to be opposites? For 18 years it worked...laugh Why? Because she was tenacious...laugh laugh laugh (or stoooopid) bigsmile

Thanks isaac. They have had their arguments over trivial things but they are best friends.

It depends on the differences. I've learned that guys who are radically different from me don't work out, so I avoid them.

BALANCE...

As I was sitting in chemistry class one day a few years ago, I was relating, in my head, the topic in hand (atomic bonding) to attraction between the sexes.

Opposites attract... the negatively charged particles attract the positively charged particles, and that's how atoms come together.

BUT EVERY ATOM HAS SIMILARITIES. For example, there exists negatively charged electrons in every atom. Without this common characteristic, there would be no negatively charged particles, and therefore no attraction will exist between atoms.

As a man and a woman, you and your partner should certainly have opposite characteristics, be they of the masculine/feminine dichotomy or of other things(as a Taoist I believe that the coin cannot exist without having its two opposite sides), but there MUST BE some similarities (the two sides are on the SAME coin and are connected in that sense) to keep that attraction alive and stable. It's called rapport
