Literally. President Trump has tried to move on from his insistence, in the wake of the violence last month in Charlottesville, that “both sides” were to blame. He has mostly stopped tweeting about his support for Confederate monuments. As far as the White House is concerned, the matter is resolved. But no matter what Trump and his advisers might prefer, he’s unlikely to be able to put questions about hate groups behind him for the rest of his presidency. And that’s because the white nationalists and supremacists, neo-Nazis and Ku Klux Klansmen, Neo-Confederates and alt-righters who gathered in Charlottesville and continue to try to organize across the nation are all marching together in his name. All the alt-right rallies in various cities nationwide, including Charlottesville, since the election have featured prominent pro-Trump rhetoric. As they did that weekend in Virginia, the marchers in these various factions — in addition to full complements of armed militiamen and weapon-and-shield-toting “Proud Boys” — have worn red “Make America Great Again” ball caps and pro-Trump T-shirts, carried pro-Trump signs and chanted his name as often as they chant “U-S-A!” In Seattle on Jan. 20, amid brawls outside a Milo Yiannopoulos event, the wife of a man wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat pulled a gun and shot an anti-fascist peacekeeper who was trying to prevent her husband from using pepper spray on counterprotesters. In Berkeley, Calif., and Portland, Ore., “free speech” rallies led by pro-Trump alt-right groups and featuring armed and armored “Proud Boys” wearing the trademark red caps turned into large rolling melees that left dozens injured. All these rallies have featured a diverse array of far-right extremists, reflective of the alt-right as a movement: nativists and Neo-Confederates and Klansmen, neo-Nazis and white nationalists and well-armed “Patriot” militiamen, men’s rights activists, and, of course, the smirking, polo-shirt-wearing, Pepe-banner-waving adherents of the online alt-right. They are a contentious lot, inclined to internal warfare and bickering. However, one thing unites all these groups, both within the movement and at these rallies, beyond a general loathing of all things liberal, often papering over their usual disagreements: Trump. The problem is not just reflected in these protests, but in what has happened nationally since the election. In the first three months after Trump won the presidency, the Southern Poverty Law Center recorded an astonishing 1,372 hate incidents, nearly all of them election-related. A deep dive into the data reveals that nearly half of these incidents involve people referencing Trump, either by name or by parroting his rhetoric: groups of white thugs intimidating minorities while chanting “Trump,” for instance, or swastika graffiti accompanied by the words “Make America White Again.” The cold, hard fact that racist thugs shout and chant Trump’s name (something we all saw happening in Charlottesville) while threatening and intimidating minorities should give us all pause — particularly the president himself. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ welcome to REALITY,y'all!!! please wipe your feet... we just had the carpets cleaned! no,people's right to protest is not what I am pointing out,because everybody DOES have the right to PEACEFULLY protest. The simplest way I can put it is that the hood came with a MANDATE to be a bigot, whereas the cap does not.
I dont think all Trump supporters are the same. I take people as they present themselves. I think Americans in general hold alot of bigotry towards minorities (not just racial), so thats another element that makes me hesitant to compare that dumb cap with that offensive hood. I have been on the receiving end of assumptions in the past. For instance, the bigotry against my minority(african americans) has been argued to come from this assumption of us being violent based on MOST of those convicted of (keeping in mind conviction is not always proof of actual guilt and lack of arrest and conviction is not proof of actual innocence) are African American, but most African Americans are not violent criminals. I think I feel the same about Trump supporters and that hat, when it comes to the very hateful bigot type of prejudice(there are levels, in my opinion, to the bigotry in this country). That is to say, I think the majority of hateful bigots will wear that hat and support Trump. But I dont think the majority of Trump supporters are hateful bigots, just undeducated and easily led by fear tactics. |

The assaults come from both ends of the street,just like the bias that tries to justify..I got to get me one of those hats and a Trump coin..maybe a Q mug while I'm at it..and a Q shirt..LOL I wonder if we should view people by the flag they carry if their not wearing hats..I suppose we could form our opinions that way as well..whereas the Trump supporters are waving the AMERICAN flag and those who oppose wave the ANTIFA flag which isn't the American flag but resembles the Nazi communist flag..so they must be communist traitors.. A true smart person, does not tell others how dumb they are. If they do, that person you accused of being dumb, is going to turn, and walk away from you. In just a few words, you have told them their opinion is worth zilch to you. If I'm that dumb, then why should I bother reading anything you post? You won't convince me of one flippin' thing, if I won't read anything you post. I know of no successful salesman that tells his customers how dumb they are. A teacher won't get anywhere telling their students they're dumb. I didn't like obama because of his policies. He claimed I was racist because I didn't like what he was saying. Americans were told by leftist, many of them in media, that Trump would start a nuclear war if he became president. Americans were told by leftist "economist", and Professor of Economics at the Graduate Center of the City University, Paul Krugman the stock market and the economy would collapse if Trump was elected before, on and after election night. Fear mongering is use by extremist on the right too, it was done when Obama was in the Oval Office. But there are far more fear mongering extremists on the left, especially in the media. Trump is the result of ignorance though, the ignorance of the Democrat party and the DNC to not give ALL Americans a better choice. |

I never said that ALL trump supporters are racist,and bigots. as a matter of fact,i made sure to say the opposite of that in my first post. but,i WILL say that it is a pretty good bet that MOST of the bigots,and racists in this country ARE trump supporters!! and,they all proudly wear the red MAGA hat in public to show allegiance to the man who has publically made them feel like their racism,and bigotry is now socially acceptable. if anybody doesn't believe this,all they have to do is open google and look at pictures taken at any recent white supremist gathering,and count the red hats that the people are wearing at them to prove that this is true. or,google it,and TRY to prove that this isn't true!!!! I think that it is a pretty safe bet that that is going to be AWFULLY hard to do,without cheating,or being deceitful,isnt it? |

Take a hike. Im sorry for your projection. I certainly had no one specific in mind with my post. however, to clarify, nowhere did I mention the word 'dumb'. that is an insulting word meant to insult. What I said was 'uneducated' which is a different thing, referring to level of formal education. The exit polls of his election do show that most did not graduate college(and by most, I mean more than half). so my statement is only a factual one and not one calling anyone anything. There are still a percentage who are educated. but like I said, MOST WERE NOT, at least not in terms of completing college at any level. And perhaps stating those facts ruins getting through to people, but probably so does stating facts like 'most' mexicans are rapists and murderers, or that we have to stop 'muslims' from entering the country and keep an eye on them, or that a professional woman was 'bleeding from her whatever'. this is what I mean though. The very things many Trump supporters attack in others, they dont even see that they are supporting in Trump, which is what I meant by easily led. |

The fear mongering by the left has to keep changing....they quit using the picture of children "in cages" when it was exposed those picture were taken when Obama was in office. You keep talking about people chanting "build the wall" as though there is NO evidence that barriers work...but the barrier between San Diego and Mexico reduce illegal crossings by 90%. Numbers supporting a stance on ANY issue isn't using fear tactics, it's using facts. And you insinuation that Trump voters were motivated 'merely' by ignorance is noting less than arrogant, no matter how you preface such a statement. People like me are far from ignorant. Did ignorant people vote for Trump? Absolutely. Did ignorant people vote for Hillary just because she was a woman or just because she was a Democrat? Absolutely. |

Americans were told by leftist, many of them in media, that Trump would start a nuclear war if he became president. Americans were told by leftist "economist", and Professor of Economics at the Graduate Center of the City University, Paul Krugman the stock market and the economy would collapse if Trump was elected before, on and after election night. Fear mongering is use by extremist on the right too, it was done when Obama was in the Oval Office. But there are far more fear mongering extremists on the left, especially in the media. Trump is the result of ignorance though, the ignorance of the Democrat party and the DNC to not give ALL Americans a better choice. I dont think alot of people dislike or continue to dislike Trump so much out of those fear tactics though. How many democrats are running around screaming about Trumps finger on the button? not as many as are screaming 'build the wall'. How many people are chanting 'protect our stocks'? Not as many as are chanting 'build the wall' yes, fear tactics are an overused tactic regardless of politics, but some seem more susceptible to the buy in than others. They aren't using those fear tactics anymore because they didn't come fruition because they weren't true in the first place. The fear mongering by the left has to keep changing....they quit using the picture of children "in cages" when it was exposed those picture were taken when Obama was in office. You keep talking about people chanting "build the wall" as though there is NO evidence that barriers work...but the barrier between San Diego and Mexico reduce illegal crossings by 90%. Numbers supporting a stance on ANY issue isn't using fear tactics, it's using facts. And you insinuation that Trump voters were motivated 'merely' by ignorance is noting less than arrogant, no matter how you preface such a statement. People like me are far from ignorant. Did ignorant people vote for Trump? Absolutely. Did ignorant people vote for Hillary just because she was a woman or just because she was a Democrat? Absolutely. With no link, Im not sure about what data you are providing. Are you talking about the barrier that went up in the 90s, because there was NO barrier there? Most 'build the wall' trumpeters dont even know the geography at the border. That it is not all just a 'walk' over, that there are. Here are some numbers. The border has 1933 miles. There is currently 700 miles of fencing and roughly the other 1200 or so miles of it is on the Rio Grande River, which Mexico and US have a treaty to not build on so as to not disrupt the flow of the River. Only 1/3 of the land is federally owned, the rest is owned by states or individuals. And again, illegal crossings are ALREADY at a historic low. so yeah, numbers are not about fear tactics, unless people use them that way. what is the saying? Figures dont lie, but liars figure. A wall may not be terrible, it just isnt urgently needed and may not bring results that correlate to the costs. And for clarity sake, I did use the word 'majority' and not 'all' regarding ignorance or bigotry in the Trump camp. |
