Valentines Day is a social construct to make single people feel bad, and partnered people feel obligated to do something to recognize it..
*I'd* rather have someone show me they care all year round (in innumerable little ways), rather than one day a year...

It doesn't bother me either Cat, but I still like the day even though I don't have that special Valentine in my life. It's more about the energy of love that it emanates. Now if we could hold on to that throughout the year, that would be even greater.

Should I attend the party
Or find. my own Valentine !

I'm going to send myself a dozen long stem red roses on Valentines day.

Edited to add that I'm buying myself chocolates too....and not those icky ones that come in a heart shaped box either.

Not really....I just learned from my childhood, from my marriage and past relationships that if I wanted something not to count on someone else to get it, or do it, for me.

My first memories of Valentine's Day (at school) was the fun and excitement of the day ..... it was an opportunity to surprise your crush with a gift or card .. mostly this was anonymous and your crush was expected to work out who sent the token ...
we seem to have lost the spirit and fun of the day .

It has evolved into a day for loved up couples or those in a relationship ... but to me it is and always has been .. an opportunity for those seeking love to express their feelings and hopefully for romance to blossom ....

Thank you Blondey... I feel the same way. I love the article you posted. That's the message I've been trying to convey here. It's how I see Valentine's Day and why it's important to me.

There's so much excitement in new love or the potential of romance blossoming. And for those who are in committed relationships, a day to renew the romance, especially if it's been fading, as the article states.

From a lot of posts I see we have seemed to have lost the spirit and fun of the day. At least here I'm seeing that. I was at work yesterday and over heard a customer speaking with my co-worker. A group of them go bowling on Thursdays, he said he wouldn't be there because it's Valentine's Day and he wants to surprise the girl he's dating with a special night out. That made me smile and gave me hope that the spirit hasn't been lost entirely... there's still some of us that will help keep that spirit alive.

I for one will continue to embrace the day and hopefully by being in the spirit, it just might bring a little romance my way. If not there's always next year, haha.... and all the days in between

You women ONLY have 4 more days to sweep me off my feet and claim me as your Valentine's day prize.


Oh wait....I might be a booby prize since no one has even remotely tried to sweep me off my feel.....EVER!!!
