When I watch "Live PD", I notice that they do a lot of DUI stops. They are possible people drinking and driving. I see some of the field sobriety tests, and I wonder if I'd pass. I say that because I have really, really bad balance. I've had it my whole life. What does everyone think about This? Who watches that show?

The other thing is...when you are driving and minding your own business, not speeding, or under the influence of anythng..and a cop tails you for quite a ways..
Then eventually pulls you over...and when he comes to the window and asks for you ID and whatnot....and you are (understandably) nervous...and he asks you why you are/ seem nervous...like he is implying something....I'm like da*** dude...maybe because you have been following me for the past 3-4 miles...?
*Anyone* would get nervous with a cop on the a**....
Like *that* is a normal and natural thing..and shouldn't make *anyone* nervous...

It's horse sh** that "cops don't pull people over for no reason"..
I am 57 years old, and can't tell you HOW many times I have been pulled over, asked for my ID and inurance info...and let go with no explanation or warning or anything...

One field test for sobriety is to stand with hands at your side and walk heal to toe in a straight line. I can't do that. I've tried it.

Most officers will use an alternative method in your case, like closing your eyes tilt your head back (sometimes) arms extended and touch your nose with your index finger. It really depends on the cop, but even I think most of them want to do the right thing.

I don't watch tv at all.

Hope it's a good show though.

I don't watch the show Cat... I tend to like the non-reality shows when I watch tv.

I believe most of the police carry the blowing device so if someone can't pass the field test for other reasons, it can be ruled out by using the device that measures their blood alcohol level.

Police have such discretion, I think it is normal for the 'average' driver to feel nerves when one follows them for a while. I dont get nervous just because they are behind me, but if they make the same couple of turns, flags go off.

I have known people be pulled over for being over the speed limit, which is normal. but I have also witnessed someone pulled over for talking to other passengers in the car(no cell phone) and slowing down before exiting(no joke).

so, my experience seeing how much discretion cops have for such stops makes me nervous if I feel I may be a 'target'.

I've actually never been pulled over. I was in one accident and it was completely the other driver's fault. The officer on the scene told me that I was not at fault. I have a copy of the accident report to show that.

Do any people here watch "Live PD" on A&E channel? I watch it once in a while.

I have not seen it. I heard advertisements of it on the radio when they were following the police from the county I was working in.
A month or so after it aired, it was being discussed on the radio and the chief or some head guy was talking about how the officers weren't acting like themselves, doing their job like they'd normally do, sometimes improperly, they changed for the sake of the cameras, toned some things down, hid somet things, highlighted/exacerbated others, for the sake of "t.v."

I notice that they do a lot of DUI stops. ...What does everyone think about This?

When I lived in New Mexico they had DUI checkpoints every weekend.
Every car had to stop. It wasn't widely known at the time but they had alcohol testers in their flashlights they stuck in the window and shined in your face as they asked you questions and made you talk to them.
Things like this:
https://www.alcopro.com/product/pas-iv-flashlight/
I remember reading in the paper about cops, politicians, and a lot of people that had multiple DUI's on their record (like over 20).

I remember after moving away I had to learn new driving techniques.
Some states are very strict on the rolling stops and uturns that are normal and ubiquitous in other states. I would be pulled over and have no idea why because I hadn't even gotten up past 15 miles an hour after making a turn onto a road without any traffic.

And I remember being pulled over at 17 when my friends and I decided it would be a good idea to start following a cop that had been following us for a while. They didn't like that.

Friday a cop was behind me, and the guy directly in front of me turned the wrong way onto a one way street and the cops didn't do anything.

And I'm constantly being passed by speeding cops, just regular against the law speeding, not going to a crime or anything.

The officer on the scene told me that I was not at fault. I have a copy of the accident report to show that.

Unless you live in 1 of 5 states it doesn't really matter unless the officer is also your/their claims adjuster thanks to comparative negligence laws.

ciretom...

The most recent egregious cop behaviour was when one pulled me over ...for speeding.

The speed limit was 30..it was a long way before my turn off, and I would have no other opportunityto pass the slowpoke *barely* doing 25 (closer to 20)..
So, i chose to pass him on the one last stretch of straight there wa...

A cop comes out of nowjere and pulls me over...for doing 35 in a 30 zone..

I explained (politely) to him that in order to pass who was going under the speed limit, the guy i had to go faster than he was, and to get far enough ahead of him so as not to cut right back in front of him(thatisn't a safe move)...I had to go 35 for about 200 feet..
(I didn't think this was a hard thing to grasp, and I wasn';t being rude)

However, apparently he thought I was...he got belligerent and asked if i wanted to go to see the judge..
Not really...so i just shut up, let him think he was right..and he gave me a warning ticket...
