First, a gentleman isn't just a guy who knows a few tricks like opening your door, etc. Any psychopath can learn that and fool the woman who doesn't look very deep. Also women tend to be attracted to brutish fellas because they feel safe with them, until they find out the man gets by on just that too and will treat his woman in simple-minded fashion as well. Women who only look for these surface behaviors and ignore guys who are more intellectual and sensitive will forever complain that they can't find the right guy, but they don't put much thought into who they're looking for. They'll pass on a guy who likes cats for example, thinking he must be gay or effeminate, and continue to look for all the wrong men in all the wrong places for the wrong reasons. This is why I for one am single at 65 and have been on this site for 5 years, not having gone on a single date. I haven't looked very hard myself though, because I know what's out there and I'm not interested. I just haven't taken myself completely out of the pool yet.

Well I'll admit to it; my dad was a Korean war Marine and a fourth gen rancher from and area where the nearest town of any size at all was a 60 to 90 minute drive. I was raised to be a gentleman and if I was busted NOT being one it would mean a minimum of a couple of good whacks (yes it would be child abuse these days) but I learned. Through out my professional life I was always a gentleman and it helped me.
Come to think of it (no disrespect to Eric) I don't need to admit to it, I'm proud of it. My only child my 15 y/o daughter is being raised to have manners, social graces and respect where and when it's due.

Most men and women these days have been hurt in one way or another and is afraid to give up their hearts again so being patient and understanding goes a long way.

It seems that most women are not really interested in gentlemen today, They all go for the bad guys. Problem is the rules have changed and I as an old man do not know what the rules are today. I have always held the door for people coming in behind me but have never jumped up to hold a chair for a lady. I will open the car door, given the chance. Always polite, watch my language but would never make the first move of making love without some invitation. So many women take that as an insult and have complained because I could not read their minds and know they are ready. If I am going to be in a relationship with a lady I will treat her like a lady and hope she will be honest and up front with me. I can always buy a woman and take advantage of her if I wish, that is not who I am looking for.

Well lonemike I'll be 64 shortly and spent over 30 years in your part of the country. I'm sure at times it can seem that women no longer appreciate gentlemen but trust me they do and if I was to make a judgement call; the women you want to spend your time with are the ones more likely to respond to you holding that door, etc.
Continue to treat women like ladies but have a leap of faith and believe me when I say that women in our age group (say over 55) want love making just like you do, they're not naive and are not going to be shocked or offended if they put themselves in a situation where you make a romantic move. Remember if you're wrong the worst that can happen is she can tell you no.
I believe in being honest and upfront from the very start and I've found that's what I get back.
Good luck!

I agree, it is hard to find a true gentleman, so many profiles are filled with sexual innuendos....what a turn off. But on the flip side I believe women have given mixed messages with all the women's liberation over the years some men feel they will offend a lady if they open the door or offer a chair. Not me....looking for the real deal.
