I just read that they've decided on the next James Bond.
It's not Idris Elba. He declined concerning the racial reactions to the possibility. A real shame, he would've been a great choice!

What they got now... a woman... a black woman slaphead An ugly one at that.
I guess James Bond can be written off for the next 10-15 yrs so the last one with Craig to come out next year is going to be the last good one in a long time to come.

I'm disappointed. I guess they're going to change the name too. Jane Bond maybe?

Yes. It seems this niche group that defines the rules for society doesn't understand that you shouldn't mess with certain things, and more importantly, that it's perfectly fine the way they are.

Maybe it's a matter of age and thus wisdom? I don't see how a movie series based on a white male character can or should be a problem or offensive to anyone.

With Daniel Craig leaving the franchise it really doesn’t matter to me.
It will never be the same

I must admit I feel the same.
As far as I'm concerned they could've wrapped it up after the last movie has been released in 2021. Which would have been a good decision as then you'd end on a very high note.
Nothing and no one can fill the shoes of Daniel Craig.
Idris Elba would've piqued my interest, although I doubt he can fight since he's already 48. And his age also makes him too old to start off with being Bond.
A dignified ending of Bond would've been the best option.

Too much to hope for I'm afraid. The industry isn't going to abandon such a successful and profitable film series. They'd rather hollow it out and replace it with their own chit and try to milk the loyalty of their fans for a bit more :money_with_wings:.

It is totally and completely ridiculous. It shows how out of touch hollywood has become. They are happy to ruin a franchise and tradition just to virtue signal how "woke" they are. The one thing that will force a course correction is when money runs out to finance the next big flop. They have had flop after flop losing money and that can only go so far. Then you have tv with unfunny comedies which strain to be politically correct to the max

Some say china is pouring money into hollywood same as they do with news media in order to get their propaganda out. No doubt there is more than one group behind it. When hollywood teeters on the brink of bankruptcy, they might get their sanity back but who knows? It might be better if new movies and entertainment were created by new faces that people actually want and let hollywood go under

"Bond, JAMES Bond"
How ridiculous is that going to sound coming from a woman?
Its a staple phrase of James Bond.

If they change it to JANE Bond it will no longer be a James Bond movie.
Plus, James Bond is a known womanizer. His demeanor around beautiful women sells his character as a smooth operator. It has been generally accepted by the public.

Reverse the roles to a female and it could come across as a sleazy woman which cause women disgust or contempt. You see that in society all the time. You might have even lived it during school. It changes the character too much and the connection the viewer has with the character will take a serious hit. Who wants to see a woman flaunting and wooing men like James Bond has in the past?

They can cast any ethnic, race or creed as James Bond but it must be a man. The 'soul' of the James Bond movie is a male perspective.

Look what happened when they tried to make the Mummy female. Universal's Dark Universe took a hard hit over those choices to the point they abandoned a whole series of films which were supposed to happen.

It would be like trying to make a Rambo movie using a female Rambo.

The Rambo example is a real good one!
I don't see it working either with a woman, not even now that Daniel Craig has kind of moved the Bond character away from lame flirty crap with women. Yes, there was always a woman but the interaction was entirely different from for instance the Roger Moore way. That was great back then, not anymore.
But as you say... a woman doing a similar thing would easily come across as cheap.

And indeed, if they'd name it Jane Bond -which I don't know they'll do btw- it'd be a different character.

Anywho, wait and see how it's going to pan out. Maybe it'll turn out to be the one movie only when ratings will drop? Didn't George Lazenby do only 1 as well?

Nice tip Tom!

I got a few on my HD, but newer ones. I never watch the old ones, maybe the last one with Pierce, and that's it.

Thinking about the current premier date for the latest Bond movie in April... the way things are going now it's likely to be postponed again.
They should start thinking about another solution. At this rate Craig is going to be 65 when we get to see it laugh
