Elon Musk needs to worry about this.

May 18, 2021

A Tesla in autopilot mode crashed into a Snohomish County, WA, deputy's patrol car over the weekend, causing significant damage, sheriff's officials said.

The incident began Saturday as the deputy responded to a vehicle that had crashed into a power pole and sheared it in half, KATU reports.

The deputy parked on the shoulder on the road, with his emergency lights flashing, and exited his vehicle to speak with the fire units on scene.

About 30 seconds later, a Tesla in autopilot mode slammed into the deputy's vehicle, heavily damaging the front driver's side.

Biden test driveS fORD'S Lighting

President Joe Biden was filmed taking Ford's all-electric new Lightning pickup truck for what looked like a high-speed run down a stretch of pavement during a visit to Ford's Rouge factory in Dearborn, Michigan on Tuesday.

Price less that 40K.
Haven't seen specs so not sure whether price includes auto pilot features

China has sold 1.33 million e cars and 827,000 charging stations by Feb 2021

compare this to US - 328 thousand.

Biden has promised 500,000 charging stations

One explanation given in comments section was

"The main issue, China is focused on long term while USA is focused on next election"

Hard to disagree.

I've seen charging stations but as far as I know they are privately owned 'features' at businesses. The businesses probably get a tax break for having them but the government is not installing stations as a federal mandate.
The government also does not install gas stations. Gas stations and utility companies are private sector in the states.

I think, in the states, charging stations will be consumer driven.
Meaning until electric cars are more common, only a few urban charging stations will be available. As people start buying electric cars more, then I believe charging stations will become more commonplace and rural stations will start popping up.

The difference between a gas station and a charging station will be time.
I imagine charging stations will need to offer some type of lounge or comfortable waiting room. It will be interesting to see how it evolves.
Batteries take time to charge. Its not like pumping in a tank of gas and hitting the road in a few minutes.

Hmmm, time to get creative and invent some business models to sell.
Who knows, I might get rich, rich I tells ya!

With the way wireless technology is progressing I wouldn't be surprised if the future brings us highways lined with solar collectors with transmission poles every so often which charges your self-driving electric car as it travels down the road.
