Aw, glad to hear she’s settling in.

My daughter had a cat tree also and it took up a lot of space in her living room. At the time, she had 2 cats one being a Bengal. Wouldn’t recommend them at all. He was a bully to the older big cat and he was half the size of the older one too. I found the Bengal to be too wild and not really suitable for families. He used to growl whilst eating; not in an aggressive way but because he was enjoying his food so much. Also, it only stopped running around like a banshee to sleep which wasn’t very often haha. Very strange. When she went on holiday she put the cat into a cattery and upon collecting him she was told that the cattery had renamed him Spidercat due to it walking upside down on the wire roof of the cage. Although he was a very beautiful cat he was hard work.

I looked up Bengal cats. Gorgeous animals!! But I don't like cats that require a lot of work and attention. I'm just not the kind of person that can deal with that, drives me nuts, ruins my peace, and irritates the crap out of me.
I was like that as a mom too, hihi. I guess that's cos I'm a Wood. I like playing, cuddling, but not all the time. I don't like to put up with crap, not from my kids, not from my pets either.
If I'd have a cat like that I think I'd find him a new home so both he and I could be happy again. Bummer is, you can't let a cat like that outdoors as they're bound to get stolen.
That's why I'm quite happy you cannot tell that Nila is Ragdoll mix. Had she looked like a Ragdoll I'd have that same problem. Father is a thoroughbred Ragdoll with all papers. Wasn't important to me, but it was to my girl.
But I'm glad Nila looks rather common. You never know about the fur, as mother is half Maine Coon, which is also long-haired like a Ragdoll. And I've been told you can't tell until they're 3-4 yrs old. But her fur is very short and smooth. There were 2 or 3 in the litter of which you could already see the longer hair a bit. But not Nila :)
Very happy if she keeps her short smooth fur. Less work as she does go outside at some point. And since I don't like a lot of fuss, combing/brushing a cat every day or 2x a day is also not really me, hahahaha.

Ooops, I'm rambling, hihi.

This is the cat tree I bought. It is quite large (the foot) but still medium size (height). No way did I want one that goes to the ceiling. I haven't the space for that, but since my cats go outdoors, I don't want that.
This is a sturdy one so it will never fall over, not when cats are larger either, without attaching it to a wall, which I also didn't want.
So a nice solution at least for now. If she's bored with it at some point I can move it to the extension or sell it.

Yes, beautiful to look at but a bother to look after as they are very boisterous and active. My daughter was in her 20s and more than capable of running around after it but even she found it too much to handle.

His name was Romeo and was used as a stud. The previous owners just wanted rid after he served his purpose and being a cat lover and having a nurturing nature my daughter took the cat on. Once home though I think she thought Romeo was a cat possessed haha. Again, Bengals are not recommended to be kept as pets and you’d really have to think long and hard before acquiring one.

Ragdolls are known to have a very laid back attitude so quite the opposite. I’m sure, because of her nature, she’ll settle in quite easily.

Phew... now gotten to the stage where Nila feels rather okay when Bailey is indoors, he's not too sure yet. But I keep petting him, and Nila, and talking to him etc. Distracting him as well if need be (my poor knees, sitting on the damned floor so much!).
So he's still in the 'wait and see' and 'I'm not sure stage' but Nila is getting to the point that she wants to play and got ready to go for it twice. I distracted her as I don't think Bailey will be too happy and then what good I achieved so far might be ruined. At some point she may have to learn, but not just yet I think. I prefer Bailey to be just a wee bit more relaxed indoors again before he gets jumped by a kitten.

Nila doesn't like the vacuum cleaner. Not a surprise, I've never had a cat that's unperturbed by vacuuming.
More encounters with the two adult cats, of course as these come in daily too, mostly to eat. They still aren't impressed, but no angry growling cats either. Heavy for me to sit with them both on the floor, petting, talking, stroking, distracting, giving cat candy. My poor back & knees, hihi.
Nila moved slowly towards Bailey, and came close to his paw when he lashed out. No problem, part of normal further socialisation that they'd otherwise get from mother.
Bailey came closer at some point, almost nose to nose with Nila. Interesting to watch! No hissing, more curiosity or maybe checking out how kitten would react? Not sure.
But so far so good!

She is a Duracell kitten, hihi. Used to having 5 sibling to play-fight with, now she's got to get rid of that energy by herself with a few toys & a climbing tree. It is truly amazing though how quick a kitten adjusts to her new situation! Move away from home & hearth, and already totally at ease with me and my home and being here.
She's incredibly sweet & cute but sure as heck has a mind of her own! A real cat, haha.

Lots of good pictures!

Thank you, Cat! It's not easy to take photos of her as she's so lively, hihi. But I do my best :)

Yes, she cute :) Such a little thing!!
With Bailey is going reasonably well. Bramble is not happy, and not easy to deal with when he's in. I'm not really surprised. I myself never really bonded with him, he's an odd cat, even for cat standards, hihi. He doesn't like to play, so distracting is difficult, he's not into candy much, so that isn't an option either to put him at ease.
So he's going to require more work and needs longer time. Meaning I will have to distract Nila more as she's not afraid anymore. She just wants to play! The minute one of the cats comes is she's ready and wants to go to them.
But it hasn't been a week yet, so I cannot complain.

Reminds me of a wall hanging I read at a local cat boarding place-

Cats don't have owners.
They have staff.laugh

Today it's been a week since I brought Nila home :)
And it's already as if she's always been here!
She's incredibly playful, too much to have her in my lap. My home jeans got scratched to bits, hihi. She tried to climb up that way too, but she's finally learning that I do not want that.

With the adult cats... They're outdoors most of the time during warmer season, so it's snippets of seeing each other when they come in to eat.
Bailey is quite okay, thank goodness as he's my familiar, like a Soul mate or something. He has always been very attached to me, and vice versa, and I'd hate to see that change!

Bramble is being a grumpy git but I believe there is improvement. He does hiss and growl, but I keep petting him and sweet talking him. I think it's beginning to pay off. Fingers crossed!!

You're welcome :)

Just now I ate a fresh new herring (mild salted herring). She of course smells that, and I've never heard her meow so loud and drawn out!! Unbelievable!
She's sleeping now so all the excitement must've worn her out, haha. That, or she's seriously offended she didn't get none.

She was probably trying to tell the neighbourhood that fish was on the menu haha

Today Nila has been with me for 2 weeks :)
She loves the cat drinking fountain! I bought it a few years ago as my other cats are aging and I want them to drink enough to prevent kidney & bladder trouble. They do use it a lot, but they prefer it to not be on. I guess cause they were older when introduced to it?
Nila on the other hand... She LOVES it when on!! She drinks from the waterfall, is interested in the top sections where the water moves. When it's off she is fussing with her front paws at the top to see why there's no water. She even puts one paw in the opening, which just fits, almost as if she's digging for water haha laugh

Sometimes she even spoons water from the waterfall to drink it! So cute!

You can buy all kinds of toys for cats, spending a lot of money. But sometimes simple things are much better, and way more interesting. The various balls I got her don't interest her in the slightest. Waste of money. Catnip thing, same.
But then an empty small box that her toys came in!!! Now THAT's fun!
Or a shoe with laces. Playtime!
