Bad idea, as a mod I'd have to watch my back constantly for fear of the villigers hunting me with torches and pitchforks

then my suggestion ... stop being a self appointed mod and leave the weird topics alone ....it's totally unnecessary to comment on each and every thread .... especially if the comments are uncalled for and make no sense at all .... and basically just taking up our space on the forums ......

Well said Slim !
It’s gone beyond ridiculous now .

Yes it has gone beyond ridiculous .... but some self appointed mods are literally being praised and encouraged to keep up their perceived "good work", by people who are supposed to be smart and aware ....

Envy no more! But we do need mods to keep things in line. Some posts AND people are getting way outta line methinks.

Not absolutely true ... as far as I kin see ....it's one person and his two followers... all vying for that non- existent Moderator role .... but I could be wrong ....

I know. Verifying pics, dealing with complaints, and similar stuff is in it as well ... I guess :see_no_evil:

Verifying photos is not a moderator’s job bigsmile

Came across this and found it interesting.

How to Identify an Internet Troll

They use anonymous or throwaway accounts.
Their account might be new.
They leave hateful or negative comments.
They make outrageous or questionable claims.
They won't let a topic go.
They constantly post.
They use bad spelling or grammar.

Hmmm……..

But you have to deal with like 125 mails per minute, saying "Why is my pic not verified. I signed up 2 minutes ago" ... followed by a barrage of insults? :see_no_evil:

That’s why we often refer them to Admin. It was NEVER a job for mods.

Regardless, the only thing that really would stop me from being a mod is, being hammered by mails ... or being the agony aunt for 16 hours :see_no_evil:

To become a mod you need to understand that modding takes precedence over posting…..ALWAYS! Not a lot of folks are willing to do that. And yes, a lot of time can be spent in dialogue with those who disagree with their warnings but that’s all part and parcel of being a mod.

Also, EVERY action mods make are recorded so your actions (as a mod) cannot go unnoticed by others in the team. It’s certainly not an easy job and requires very careful consideration.

I am aware of all that

Since I am a mod in a group for football supporters on FB, even if it's a tiny one compared to Mingle, but there is days I could just hide in the chimney :see_no_evil:

Don't even know, if a mod on Mingle had to look after all forums. Or were the forums divided among the team.

We individually looked after ALL the forums ourselves. I think there’s 200+. The mods were almost never logged on at the same time so mostly we were modding alone. There were times we overlapped but that wasn’t often and would be for short periods only. It would rather depend on the time zones of the others who would be modding with you. When I modded, I was logged on when the others were sleeping and vice versa.

To give you a better understanding of mods roles here just remember that mods deal ONLY with forum issues. Admin deal with profiles. Two separate jobs, two separate departments.

Bit different in my FB group then. Mods also deal with profiles.

But the mod job on Mingle won't be anything for me. I mean, it would be better to have mods for forums, where they have relevant knowledge and experience. Me for example, forums like arts and crafts, animals, the German forum, literature, health issues or music.

I didn’t know much when I started. You learn on the job.
