I have become friends with women by meeting them in situations such as work, evening class, parties, and it has remained as friendship. Dating someone and finding it's not a match, is where I would not want to become friends, for all the reasons mentioned here. Difficult sometimes to see the difference between kindness and interest, your kindness in accepting his visits may have been interpreted by him as possible interest, perhaps he was only seeing what he wanted to see. In my opinion, failed romantic dates should end there, and not morph in to friendship, because if it was one-sided you are storing up more pain down the road for them, or more heartache for you knowing it will never go anywhere. Yes, part as friends, but leave it there.
