I am not great when it comes to geography , nor am I familiars with all the cities , towns and places in North America , but I think I am getting pretty good at spotting places that dont really exist....but Scammers use them all the time ....So, can I take it for granted, that the scammers just make up these places to lure you to their profile Or are they just plain Stupid??

Example ..Cindy in Florida Florida Or Jennifer in Las Vegas, New Mexico..

Can you add to this list ...Go....

Google is your friend. There actually is a Las Vegas, New Mexico which is the county seat of San Miguel County (so it should be large for that area). But not as big or famous as the Nevada one...lol

They do seem to like to use small towns (I am in a town of 3,000 so I can not say much) but I did look up one town that had the population of 74 I think, and there was about 30 profiles using that town...lol

Red flags but that does not mean the places are not real. It looks like there is an Alaska, Wisconsin but I did not find one for Iowa, Alabama (I am not saying it is not real, just my 2 second google search did not find it...lol).

Arkansas is bad for stealing city names, I can drive from Paris to England in about 2 hours here...lol

LOL...I would assume those were people from those countries (scammer or not) wanting to make a profile to contact people in the states. I see it with profiles from the Philippines on here a lot.

I believe that scammers, on the whole, are not the cleverest people. However, giving "credit" where it's due, they are very good at manipulating people.

Let me give you a couple of examples of scammers' stupidity:

1. Village A has a population of 423 (according to a web search). I have had 40+ likes by people claiming to be women and who claim to be from that village. Thus, if they are a) real, b) actually female, and c) actually live in village A, we see that about 20% of all females (of all ages) in that village like me. If we take age distribution and Mingle2 membership into account, it's significantly more than 40%. The odds are that a very large percentage of these are scammers.

2. Another village, B, has a population of 168. I have had 55 likes from that village, or 65% of all females in that village. Taking age distribution and Mingle2 membership into account, we're getting a very large scammer percentage indeed.

3. A third village, C, has a population of 213. I have only had one female from C who liked me. I'd be inclined to provisionally believe that one.

Were the scammers of even average intelligence, they would not claim to be from villages small enough that they can be exposed by using simple calculations.

I think it was that "Trafficked with Mariana Van Zeller" show that interviewed scammers and talked to them about the things that they do. One of the things that was talked about was the poor grammar, which they said was on purpose. When you are scamming someone, you want to weed out the intelligent people. The lower educated are easier to scam. I figure it works the same with the location also, make some guy believe he found a small town girl...lol

Interesting thought. I may have underestimated the scammers.

That is where Mingle can make a big difference. Your computer device has a unique identification associated with it and Mingle should attach it to each profile. Anytime two or more profiles have the same unique identification ID, the account should be frozen. I would suspect most of those "ladies" exist on the same server!!!

that could pose a problem for those that are in Mingle's jail.. (accounts deactived for "code violations")

Mingle doesn't have many real folks working behind the scenes (MAYbe 1 or 2? cuz it takes forever to get someone REAL to answer you) and currently their AI algorithms are booting active users without actual cause (I SWEAR I didn't do it.. whatever I supposedly did LOL) so I've personally had to create a "new" profile in order to advocate my release and reinstatement.. and.. therein lies the problem with your suggestion.. ohwell

they'd have to hire people to actively work with the site to properly monitor it without causing 20 year veterans to be booted..

You heard of spoofing? Where they can call your phone with any phone number they want including your own? They can do the same with you computer. So that ID that you are currently using that you think is just yours, they can also use the same number and then you both would get locked out...

I think it is fine to keep it broad with province or state, especially with women. It keeps a level of personal privacy and security. Someone can learn more approximate with conversation and getting to know one another.

I assume some group owns Mingle and should be responsible for the content. Is there a way to get them to make some improvements to what are multiple problems? Some of this is so easy to fix if you have a willingness to do it.
