Grade President Bush on his State of the Union Address.
(I'm hoping that at least some people actually watched.)

I fervently dislike Bush, particularly as he outright laughed (as opposed to his trademark smirk)...but I was particularly impressed with his State of the Union address. His strong approach towards earmarking is particularly appealing. The fact that he is going to actually issue an executive order to stop earmarking is (I believe) unprecedented, and is a welcome step towards keeping promises in politics rather than lip service. His approach towards the international conflicts was strikingly balanced and reasoned. He is facing the right direction on budget reform, albeit using the wrong weapon. Cutting "needless and bloated" (read: democratic supported) programs while maintaining his huge tax cuts is certainly not the way to raise money for the budget. And of course I still oppose No Child Left Behind and his wiretapping program, but I never expected him to give up on those. Can't ask for everything...

It pains me to give him a B+ on that. But I do.

You know what I like most about Bush?
It is the fact that he tried to do what was best for the country, knowing it was going to cost him votes.
Just like the Iraq war.
Now with the Clintons they will say anything that they think you will want to hear, and if that doesen't work then they will change anything they have too just to get the votes they need. They are so wishy washy.
Choose who you will, but I would rather choose someone that does not change their mind no matter what.
Sorry, but you brought it up

As a follow-up, this Democrat response is the most scripted, monotonous thing I have ever heard. Terrible inflection, and her face looks permanently botoxed!

Way to go, Democrats grumble

I started the thread to hear people's viewpoints, not to attack or defend anything. So, rather than having you apologize for your comments, I welcome them. To an extent, I agree that President Bush's commitment has sometimes been refreshing and much needed. Other times I would argue that it was inappropriate. Either way, his supporters have their reasons and I respect that.

Well, with a Democrat controlled Congress, you can't exactly blame the Republicans if nothing is getting done...

sorry guys...im am very much a constitutionalist, which, for the most part, leaves no room for most political figures.

Then I guess that means that you loved the part about Dubya's judicial nominees needing to be escorted quickly to the bench?

oh yeah. i wish that the problems with this country were as simple as democrat vs. republican. Unfortunately they are much more complicated and easy to overlook. This is my biggest problem with Hilary. She is trying to promote further gun control. Gun control = very unconstitutional. Our forefathers were some of the smartest people to ever walk this planet. A lot of time and energy went into our constitution. Every single right under the bill of rights was given to us for a very good reason. Mostly it was to ensure the government don't become more powerful than the people. People are becoming more and more dependant on bureaucracy to make their decisions for them. We are becoming comfortable with the federal government running things like schools. Sorry to go off on a rant but this country was founded on people taking the responsibility to educate, become aware and responsible for his or her own actions and make his or her own decisions. Little by little we are falling under a government's rule. This was never meant to happen.

Didnt get the chance to watch it from where Im at, but I would say that if a dem has the guts to come on here and talk honestly about the positives then I would have liked it as well. Dubs the most straight forward person that Ive seen in politics in a long time, to bad the next one wont be no matter who wins (hillary doesnt have a snow balls chance by the way-sorry ladies).

They're all crooks! All of them! If anyone is fooled into thinking one person runs this country then your highly mistaken. As I posted yesterday, I'm suffering from E.D....Electile Disfunction......none of the candidates thrill me. To bad Elvis isn't still around!
