Hey all,

I was heading to bed, and I had a ringing in my ears. For years, I've been having this ringing, and I asked my roommate what causes it, on a whim. He didn't know, so I looked it up. And I found that if accompanied by dizziness (which happens anytime I stand up), it might be vertigo or Meniere's Disease. Now, keep in mind that I AM 6'4", so I don't know if the dizziness is just due to my height, or what…Also, for Meniere's Disease, it says it is accompanied by a fullness feeling in the ear. However, it also said it usually doesn't occur until the ages of 20-22.

Does anyone have any knowledge in this area? Do you think I should go to a doctor? Do I have anything to worry about?

Sometimes different meds cause ringing in the ears.

Check with your doctor, can be caused by many things, meds like Winx said, allergies, or it can be the diseases you mentioned. Either way you need to get checked out. Can also be benign positional vertigo (dizziness) when you change position, but that doesn't have ringing in the ears with it. Definitely check with your doc, height has nothing to do with it. The age range they list is a "general" range, but there are always people who can have things develop outside the age ranges listed. Good luck.

I have a mild form of tinnitis. It comes in varying degrees. Mine is more like hearing constant buzzing or hissing, most has ringing. I've read about some who are so bothered they feel suicidal. It can happen from too much aspirin, exposure to loud noises and different antibiotics. I noticed mine when I had an ear infection that took 3 anti-biotics to treat. I have gone to a few ENT specialists and unless something has changed there is no known cure. Ginko Biloba helps lessen the noise, supposedly due to increased circlation to the head. If you also have dizziness you may have something else. I'd love to hear silence again, but you get sorta used to it, or I have.

Tinnitus.......ringing in ears.......could be an ear infection.....go check with your doctor!

I have had tinitus for years. I guess Im lucky that I cant hear it when other things have my attention but when it is quiet or at night when I try to sleep, it is a annoying. I wouldn't try to self disagnos...see a Dr pronto. I have just gotten used to it and quit trying to treat it.

Curios, your doctor would like perform an otoscopic exam to check the tympanic membrane of your eardrum. If it's a simple ear infection they would give you a prescription antibiotic and it cures itself. One time I had swimmer's ear and the doctors prescribed me amoxicilin and it went away.

If he or she is a good doctor, they will also perform a Weber/Rinne test on you with a 500+HZ tuning fork.

I noticed with me that my estachian tube is very sensitive to pressure changes in the atmosphere. It constricts and expands and sometimes I feel a muffled sensation in my hearing. Something I just have to live with.
