in the uk, the usual waiting time for a funeral is 2 weeks, and in the winter about 3 weeks. ive noticed people say on here when someones passed there funeral was a few days later, is that correct??? and also whats a wake?? we dont do that here

Generally speaking a funeral is usually about 3 days after death, although there are exceptions. A wake if I'm not mistaken is the body preview or funeral home gathering prior to the burial.

Yes...Usually only a few days for the funereal, and a wake is like a party...people bring food or whatever, kind of like everyone's supposed to eat & be happy, like celebrating the deacesed's life instead of excessivly mourning...

Yes, the waiting time is usually a few days. As far as the wake goes, I think its either the viewing, the memorial service at the viewing (before the acutal funeral) or the burial sevice at the cemetary. I'm not sure on that one...

Proud Irish man, saying that a wake is the best way to go...

A party, and a celebration, for the passing of life, and the ability to have lived it to it's fullest, both before, and, beyond death...

With Equescent thoughts...

I've been to a few sorta celebatory and some not.

I end of getting overly sad at funerals, so I politely try to avoid unless it's a relative.

The after the burial get together is usually more celebatory, but the body viewing is maybe comforting to some; but creeps the heck out of me.

Depending on how the person died, yes you do see the body. And you do not have to look at the body if you don't want to.

with these bad bugs going around here, around christmas, it was around 3 weeks to wait for a funeral. my sisters friend who hung himself was waiting over 2 weeks. in my opinion thats way to long. i feel after the funeral, you can start to try and move on.

when my father died, during the wake I couldn't stay away from his casket, just hoping he would start breathing again at any moment. frown but I placed a picture of me and my brother in his jacket pocket near his heart so that made me feel a little better.

Well say they died in a horrific car crash and they were disfigured beyond recognition, they usually do not open the casket. And the funerals I have been, the body is in a small room where people can go into and most times everyone was in the hall talking. *shrugs*

Hi Deb......

Funerals here can happen quick or take a while each family does it diffrent so there is no set rule.

As far as a wake you guys started that. You or one of your neighbors started it any way.

When cooper startted being used and was formed into a cups people would use it for their Alcohol dronks. Well Alcohol and cooper creates some sort of poison and when people would drink a lot of Alcohol in a cooper cup they would pass out in a coma state and they would appear dead. Then some of these dead people, not dead at all would WAKE up. So as to avoid burring a live person they would take the person that drank him/herself to “death” and put the body in their homes so the family could see if the person would WAKE up…….
