What I am about to relate has been in the Washington Post, The New York Observer, other papers and on cable news. Below is the story.

One of Hillary's best-known supporters, feminist author Gloria Steinem, made a mockery of McCain's ordeal as a prisoner of war and the torture he endured as a captured American pilot by the Viet Cong. Steinem spoke in Texas over the weekend at a "Women for Hillary" event. During Steinem's discussion of McCain's horrific experience as a POW she said "I mean, hello? This is supposed to be a qualification to be president? I don't think so."

The Clinton campaign quickly denounced Steinem's remarks, stating "Senator Clinton has repeatedly praised Senator McCain's courage and service to his country."

McCain's campaign retored that his five and a half years as a POW makes him more qualified to be commander-in-chief, because he put his country before his own life and proved by surviving as a POW that McCain can perform under great stress.

Dirty tricks are the norm in campaign strategies, but there are some lines that should not be crossed. Clearly Steinem crossed one. What do you guys/gals think of Steinem's remarks?

I'm not a fan of McCain.. but there is no reason to EVER make a mockery of anyone who has been a POW. So screw that lady. But I agree with Tina, has nothing to do with Hillary. It's just a person who is completely out of line.

Considering Clinton's political tactics over the ages, it would not surprise me one bit if this was all staged by the Clintons.
I feel that Clinton is getting a little bit desperate and resorting to some low tactics. Look at what she has done to Obama.

I don't know about belittling but I am concerned over his "mental health" to run this country in a time of war. Hell, he may be having flashbacks and hit the red button that blows us all upnoway

Dragoness...... Why do you question McCain's mental health? I have never read/heard of anything bizzare that he has done. Additionally, although jokes are made about the guy's age, he is not akin to VP Cheyney, always in the hospital for one reason or another. You need to look at the man and forget the age factor.

If you are going to talk about mental health, look at Hillary. What kind of a whack job stays with a guy who publicly humilates her by cheating on her over and over?! And to make matters worst, the whole word knows about it!

I think dragon has good qualifications to talk about mental health issues...her personal experiences probably give her more experience with it than any formal education would have given her

There is only one situation in which I like dwarfs: When I have and have just killed a dwarf, I like to cannibalize him so that that I add insult to injury.

I wonder if it would be possible to have more of the text, like what she was talking about before her remarks...its not uncommon for well known leader's words to be taken out of context...every side has had this happen to them....until I know everything she said, Im reserving my opinion.
Gloria Steinem has been a hero of mine since I was a teenager...I've never known her to "bash" anyone as she is insinuated doing in this article....my opinion on this is biased, no doubt...but as I stated earlier, Id like to see more of the conversation....
