My boyfriend came home on his lunch break looking grave, and when I asked what was wrong, he just handed me the huge packed of information the company gave him, starting with "I regretfully advise you that your employment with ********* will terminate effective March 14, 2008...."


I am 20 and he is 25... he has worked with the company for over 2 years and he LOVES it. His job is his favorite thing ever. Hes a tech engineer and designs and builds computer type stuff. Hes the youngest in his department and the only one not married or with a family, so its understandable that he is the expendable one... but he is so destroyed. He is a saver and a planner. He has worked so hard for that position...


I just feel so bad for him. I work 2 part time jobs and ill be able to pay the rent for both of us. I lost the best job ive ever had on dec 30th last year, and he was supportive and he carried everything until I found work again. I will gladly do whatever I can to help him... but it feels like the foundation of his world falling apart. He is 25, made VERY good money... saving to buy a house. It was like his life was beginning. It must hurt his pride as well... because I know he felt good being able to provide for me. He just took me shopping spontaneously last week.


Im going to try so hard to be supportive.... but I just feel so much empathy for him. Its heart-wrenching. How can I show him support?

I was laid off from my job of 14 yrs in January with no notice, no vacation or severance pay. I can't find a job and it's rough.
Just love him and support him. In my job search on the internet I've noticed there are alot of jobs listed for computer techs and engineers. Sorry this happened and the best of luck to you both.

Im an avid believer of everything happening for a reason...

Im sure good will come of this... but... oh it just breaks my heart. He can get another job easily... but he loved it there.. he's devastated...

I understand that feeling of devastation. When I look at my own situation I too agree that everything happens for a reason. Where I live there are no jobs in my profession; it's frustrating and I've never been more scared in my entire life with the economy the way it is now. My heart is broken too and I am devasted ... but I have to believe something better will come along not just for me but for him too.

Hang in there, things will get better. They say there is a reason for everything. Maybe this just opened the door to a better job that he wouldn't have found while he was emplyed with this company. Good Luck

If you express to him all that you have to us, he will be comforted in knowing how much faith you have in him. Also remind him that he is not alone, & he is in a better position than many to find new employment.
