I am comfortable with whatever she decides. My ex wife was torn in doing so only because there were many assets prior to us that existed. Which required a LOT of paperwork.....

Whichever she is comfortable with, it's just a name

I think when you get married, you should take your husband's last name. What is the point in getting married if you don't even want his last name?

My last name is very valuable. I don't just hand it out to anyone... The woman who accepts it is going to be very lucky.

She can hyphenate if she really wants, but my feeling on this topic has always been more like "why should I give it to you" more so than "why should you take it"

Two way street. smokin

I think it would have bothered more years ago.... I have grown in my thoughts though... As long as she understands she is still the husbands property then it's probably ok....indifferent

just kidding!! sheesh!

I always thought it was ridiculous to ask a woman to change her name. My husband & I agreed to take each other's name & hyphenate it, so we both changed & the kids would have the same name. Great plan, right? Especially since the names sounded good together. Well, I completed all my paperwork, changed to the hyphenated & when my husband-to-be did the same, he got all sorts of questions & hassles that I hadn't....so he backed out. By then we were married, so we ended up with different names & the subsequent kids have hyphenated names which has caused confusion over the years. Now why do you think the 'powers that be' would question a many changing his name when getting married? If I had it to do over, I'd have just kept my own name.

I think we should trade names.

That's fair!
