Looking down on the ground
traumatized by the sight of a once
vibrant and precious entity
now brutalized, viciously slaughtered
beyond recognition~

and I weep while I helplessly watch
as my hard earned Trust
lies dying at my feet …

Everybody needs little self reflection to keep themselves humble. I like this~

Taking a solitary walk on the deck
of a bustling, crowded ship,
I am caught up, my attention drawn
by the movement of an aged duo
gliding across a stage gently swaying
with the motion of a tropical blue ocean

Mesmerized, I stand still watching
two smiling faces creased with life--
A man and his wife dancing together,
floating gracefully on the sweet strands spun
by the delicate fingers of a pianist,
lost in memories of years gone by

Oblivious to all but the music,
they move entranced in their dance
momentarily bemused, beautifully infused
with this momentary illusion,
this gentle musical transfusion of vibrant youth

As the music plays
they dream of days
long gone …

With eyes closed he can still see her,
a slim young fairy sweet and petite
held tightly in the arms of
a young man light on his feet,
both caught up in a moment of time
that seemed as if it would last …
… forever …

Charmed, I watch this tiny,
yet regal and lovely Ginger Rogers
dancing the night away with her own
dignified, debonair and handsome Fred Astaire
until the last mournful key soars through
the tropic night air and they open their eyes
to find themselves there standing
in the middle of an anonymous dance floor

Rudely awakened,
they are dreaming no more

Their song has been sung,
they are no longer young …

My heart breaks as I look at these
two elderly faces now struck with regret;
saddened by special moments re-captured
only to be freed by the dying notes of a grand piano

But when the music starts playing,
these old partners start swaying
and again I am charmed; mesmerized
by two smiling faces creased with life;
this man and his wife dancing together,
their lost memories of years gone by found;
in one enchanted evening …

I have lived this week on a voyage
of reflection, leaving behind
trails of painful introspection,
I swam in the silky sea of ideas
of what I imagined life would be,
until rough waves of reality washed over me
leaving me drowning in deep, dark,
familiar waters of hurt
and disappointment

Like an addict sucking soothing smoke swirling
out of a pipe cracked with overuse,
lungs breathless and body
going down fast,

I gasped and grasped at my dwindling dreams
and for one intoxicating moment,
held onto the life saver I frantically reached for
only to have it pulled away once more
by those who would demand payment
for the life I would live freely
if only given the chance

Floundering and desperate for air,
I found myself breathing deeply,
only to choke on the convoluted,
cutting and polluted words exhaled
by those I thought I could love,
leaving me trapped and impaled on the
sharp shards of my shattered
pipe dreams …

Bruised and battered,
losing everything that mattered,
I reached out with trepidation
in desperate search of sweet salvation,
only to come away empty handed,
my fingers singed in my fiery and
numerous attempts
to save my own life

Sickened and weary of this endless struggle,
I watched my once bright,
and now tarnished hopes take flight;
leaving me unpleasantly permeated in
the sour scent of despair as I watched my
life dissipate in the air,
the sad, smoky residue of
my dreams …

Good Morning Chelsea, from Joni Mitchell

Woke up, it was a chelsea morning, and the first thing that I heard
Was a song outside my window, and the traffic wrote the words
It came a-reeling up like christmas bells, and rapping up like pipes and drums

Oh, wont you stay
Well put on the day
And well wear it till the night comes

Woke up, it was a chelsea morning, and the first thing that I saw
Was the sun through yellow curtains, and a rainbow on the wall
Blue, red, green and gold to welcome you, crimson crystal beads to beckon

Oh, wont you stay
Well put on the day
Theres a sun show every second

Now the curtain opens on a portrait of today
And the streets are paved with passersby
And pigeons fly
And papers lie
Waiting to blow away

Woke up, it was a chelsea morning, and the first thing that I knew
There was milk and toast and honey and a bowl of oranges, too
And the sun poured in like butterscotch and stuck to all my senses
Oh, wont you stay
Well put on the day
And well talk in present tenses

When the curtain closes and the rainbow runs away
I will bring you incense owls by night
By candlelight
By jewel-light
If only you will stay
Pretty baby, wont you
Wake up, its a chelsea morning

This makes me sick. Not your exceptionally well written poem, but the topic matter. I commend you for taking this horrific topic and bringing it to our attention. We humans have a tendency to look the other way. It's terrible.
