Taylor McDade

In the old west, where gunslingers roam
There was a quiet man named Taylor McDade,
He held the legend, of being the quickest
With a special gun, he had made.
The silver gun barrel, had about forty nine knicks,
Each, for the men he had killed,
He kills only for self protection, to save his own life
Not doing it for the thrill.

He had a squint in his eye, nary a smile
With a half burnt cheroot in his mouth,
His hat dipped below his brow, to shade his eyes
Coming up from the south.
Riding his chestnut steed, entering Abilene
He wasn't looking for trouble or scoff,
He turned his steed toward the saloon, for a drink
As his steed drank from the trough.

Before he dismounted, chewing on his cheroot
He stared a squinting gleam at two men,
They palmed their guns, that were at their sides
He said, "Don't, you won't win."
"You see this gun here, special made for me,"
As it glistened in the sun,
"I'm the quickest around the west, legend says,
From the fights I've won."

They slowly took their hands off of their pistols
Backed away as he dismounted,
"You see the knicks on the barrel," As he showed the gun
"It's where I have counted."
"There's forty nine knicks, for the men I've killed
Under the noonday sun,
Gentlemen, if you treasure your lives
Please don't make it fifty one."

With that warning and a nod of his hat
He went into the saloon for his drink,
As he walked in, people stared at him
As they listened to his spurs clink.
He stepped up to the bar, ordered a whiskey
"No trouble barkeep, just wettin' my whistle."
As he took the shot glass and leaned back to swallow
"Been riding the desert, among the thistle."

As he sat his glass down on the bar
The doors swung open a childs voice saying,
"Mister, there's two men out front who want you,"
As he heard his horse neighing.
"One more barkeep, this one's going to be for the dusty trail."
As he takes the shot glass, swallowing the whisky
As he does without fail.

He turns casually and walks slowly to the doors
Not in a big hurry for the thrill,
For he has a feeling, that on this day
He knows he has to kill.
He never turns down from a challenge
And nobody messes with his steed,
It's time to meet these two men
And satisfy their greed.

He stands on the wooden sidewalk
Looking up into the noon day sun,
"Well boys, you've done gone and done it,
It looks like it's going to be fifty one."
With a deep meaningful voice, he said
"Now let go of my horse."
The two men backed away, to the middle of the street,
And then it happened, of course.

As he stepped down off the sidewalk and petted his steed
He got in the middle of the street,
The two men got itchy fingers, tried for their guns
And the job was complete.
Only one gun rang out, as the two tried to draw
Only one man stood under the noon day sun,
As he blew the smoke from his barrel, he walked towards his steed
He drew his knife from his saddlebags
And knicked in fifty one.

He holstered his gun, mounted his steed
And cantered out of town,
The townsfolk were amazed, as they looked
At the two men lying down.
He headed north, out of town
Disgusted, that he had just laid,
Two men, face down in the dirt
To face the legend
Of Taylor McDade.

Thank you Jason, I appreciate that more than you know. I am not here to compete with anyone or make spaghetti..lol. Marc is a good writer of his type of western and I just gave it a try for myself while I had the idea and flow going. Once again Jason, thanks.

Thank you Tazzy..glad you liked it even though you don't like westerns much.

And Marc..I know you and Wench were just joking around...I've had all kinds of criticism and I take it well. It goes with the profession of being a writer. You take the good with the bad.
